I use quite a few Zip Linq cables (USB to iPhone, USB-A to USB-B, USB to Mini-USB etc). Nobody seems to be selling the power cable in the UK, with all the usual suppliers listing it as not currently available. I wonder if there has been a problem with the higher (220V) European version? I have a pair of very short figure 8 to Euro 2 pin leads. I am told that these short leads no longer meet CEE specs, so I am guarding mine carefully. It would, I agree, be nice if these were made from soft braided type wire, and neoprene insulated + woven kevlar covered, to make them very flexible. I am not a huge fan of hanging things like chargers directly off wall sockets, especially if in third world countries. I was using the old original M8 brick charger in India on a socket that had been placed rather than fixed in the wall. I had the charger propped up with a bent metal coat hanger. It slipped, the socket fell out of the wall and all the lights went out. Wilson

I LOVE the new smaller Leica charger, mostly because it's very small and doesn't hang right on the wall, potentially taking up two sockets and possibly not working on loose or damaged receptacles. I may try to find some shorter 1- or 2-foot long cords to replace the longer ones for travel. But I do like that they use cords.

Bo_Lorentzen Posted November 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 8, 2009 I grabbed 3 charger cables, cut the to 4-5 inches, then soldered them together with one plug and shrink tubed it all. plugs into the wall and let me hang 3 chargers from it for different types of gear, takes less space than one power-strip. It does not solve the bad-socket problem though... .
AlanJW Posted November 9, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 9, 2009 There are other right angle figure 8 plugs that can be used with the newer charger. They are small and easy to manage, and with the lightweight charger I have never felt there was any real danger of it falling or pulling out the socket. I have used these plugs in western Europe and the US -- haven't found one yet with a UK plug but perhaps Apple can come to the rescue here as well. I am pretty sure you can find such plugs on eBay, sometimes denominated as Apple plugs but made by third parties.

I got three genuine Apple ones for £12 earlier this year. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! JeffreyTotaro Posted November 10, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 10, 2009 Does anyone know the generic name for the 2-pin connector itself? Not the Apple duck head, but the 2 pin part. I want to search for other options. The US version of the Apple thing fits the charger, but then will not allow you to plug it into the wall since it does not sit flush with the charger body. I may just shorten the cord myself.
noah_addis Posted November 10, 2009 Share #16 Posted November 10, 2009 I don't know what the technical term is, but they're often referred to as 'figure 8' plugs. A google search will show you lots of places to buy them. I've found them in 18-inch and 3-foot lengths, though I haven't ordered any yet.

35mmSummicron Posted February 5, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 5, 2010 Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I wanted to share with my North American shooters looking for a solution OTHER than a long figure--8 chord for the newer M8.2/M9 charger. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! After searching high and low at local electronic/component surplus stores, I ended up ordering from SF Cable in the US. It is 10A 125V, well built 90 degree 2prong power adaptor to figure-8. Same rating as the chord as Leica supplies, and fits snug enough to hang off of. FYI: I have no affiliation with SF Cable, and this was the first time I purchased from them. Happy so far.
