Diopter for my M8.2 - will it clear Luigi case?

I've searched and read a lot of threads on the subject of Leica diopters but have not seen an answer to this particular question. The diopters seem to have a longer circumference (wider than current glass window on my M8.2)? I was wondering if someone could confirm this - if correct I assume a Leica diopter would not clear a standard Luigi half case?

I'm near sighted in my right eye and far sighted in left. I can focus just fine with the left (except at close distances) but poorly with right. I wear Rodenstock progressives (just started wearing glasses this year) and can focus pretty well with them on but it is a struggle to see out to the 24mm framelines. Ideally, therefore, I'd prefer to focus through my right with both eyes open and see out to the edges (kind of why I like an RF to begin with) - hence, my interest in a diopter. BTW, my optician says my prescription is -1.25 in my right but I take it there is no -1.25 Leica diopter? Any recommendations (i.e., -1 vs. -1.5)?

thanks

I just got a +1.5 Leica Diopter for my M8.2. It is exactly the same diameter of the M8.2 eyepiece, so the eyepiece cutout of a halfcase will clear it nicely.

I always get confused on which diopter is needed. Here is how I think it works. I need a +2 correction for my right eye. So I need to go up (or +) 2 from the Leica viewfinder, which is -0.5, thus a +1.5 diopter gives me a correction that is up 2. If you need a -1.25 correction it seems to me you would need to go down (or -) 1.25. That would require a -1.75 diopter. Since that does not seem to be a choice it looks like you must go with either -1.5 or -2 diopter.

Thanks very much Luke - it is a relief to hear that the diopter is the same diameter as the eyepiece.

I also heard back from my dealer in NY who tells me pretty much the same thing regarding the -0.5 of the viewfinder but he indicated I should go with a -1.0, which would give me a net -1.5 (as you point out, no quarter sizes). I agree, this can be a bit confusing to sort out.

I'm going to see if I can live with shooting with my glasses for now but may order the diopter next week. Thanks again for the help Luke - appreciated!

Agree with Luke. I have the +1.5 Leica Diopter also and it is as Luke has said......

Very compact fit.

I also use it on my 1.4x magnifier with the Summarit 90mm. Works a treat with this as well.....

If I understand this diopter stuff correctly (and I may not) a -1.0 diopter eyepiece is a difference of -0.5 from the Leica viewfinder (which itself is at -0.5). You need a correction of -1.25 to see clearly. A -1.5 eypiece gives you a correction of -1 and a -2 eyepiece gives a correction of -1.5.

If your dealer will allow an exchange the best way IMO is to try several and pick the one that works best for you.
