ryee3 Posted November 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried looking the Leica 28-90 mm R f2.8 up in some older threads and came up with nothing. Can anyone comment on this lens. Is this made in Germany? Any unique advantages regarding this zoom lens ie street photography, portraits. Ive been told many times just use fixed focal length lenses. hamey Posted November 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2009 I have this lens, and simply love it. Mainly use it for my Railway photography, as I find the 28-90mm focal length terrific. This shot taken with the R9 & 28-90mm Kodak 100GX slide film scanned with the Minolta 5400-2. p.s check this website elrectanguloenlamano: LEICA: A MAGICAL WORD WITH GREAT FUTURE (2nd Part) Ken. wizard Posted November 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 3, 2009 Is this made in Germany? Yes, it is. And it is a terrific lens. It made me buy into the R system at a point where I knew this system wouldn't live on forever, and I don't regret it for one second. The optical quality is simply amazing and better than most of Leica's fixed focal length lenses, to answer another of your questions. Andy

It is indeed a truly excellent modern aspherical design. It's fairly bulky, and the aperture is only 4.5 at the 90 end, but you can't rewrite the laws of optics. My single lens holiday outfit is this one on an R8, with Superia 400. The performance is as good or better than the primes (max aperture apart of course). By the way, the 21-35 R is also a superb performer.
masjah Posted November 6, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 6, 2009 Ffordes have got one for £1599; well more than I paid for my ex-demo one with full Passport warranty.
