RockyIII Posted October 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) What do you do about vision correction for the 12022 18mm external viewfinder? Does it accept the same diopter correction lenses as the M8 and M9 viewfinders? I have not seen an external viewfinder in person, but in the photos I cannot see any threads in which to screw in a correction lens. Rocky

adan Posted October 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2009 There are ways to cobble a diopter on, but it is rather pointless. No focusing is done through the accesory viewfinder, and thus no need for perfectly corrected vision. All it does is put a shiny box around what will be in the picture (more or less). It's a reverse Galilean finder (see figure 4: Looking Forward:) so everything appears equally sharp. No "focal point" to speak off. The Leica 21/24/28 zoom finder http://en.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/accessories/viewfinder_accessories/2208.html had a rubber hat on the back, and I think some people figured out how to slide a diopter lens into the doughnut hole so that the rubber gripped it. The new 18/21/24 finders also seem to have a rubber-covered eyepiece, so perhaps the same tirck will work there.

I would love to be able to put a correction lens instead of using my spectacles i can tell you.
chris_tribble Posted October 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2009 I use the WATE finder. This accepts the diopter from the R9 / R10 apparently... Luckily I can manage without on this (though I use +3.5 on the M body...)
RockyIII Posted October 29, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted October 29, 2009 I appreciate the replies. I was hoping I was wrong and that the adjustment lenses would fit. It doesn't make sense to me that they would design some viewfinders for adjustment and some without. Oh well. Rocky
