That is really a significant difference. While C1 V5 appears to have some really handy enhancements I would not have expected differences like this on such a basic level.

Whoops, you edited the comparison image out of your original post so now my comment doesn't make much sense! What happened?

I have just been looking at some of the tutorials and there look to be a few great new tools in V5 - SkinTone etc. The bad news is that the LE version of C1 given to us with M8's is not eligible for a free upgrade to C1 V5 or for the upgrade price to C1 V5 pro. It is full price of €299 rather than €229. Still worth it I think.

Wilson, I just upgraded my LE version to the Pro for US$299. Dunno if that's comparable to your euro quotes.

Um. yeah. So the output isn't from C1 at all, right?

You can't compare outputs like that with auto levels applied. This says more about PS than C1, I'm afraid.

Output from C1, auto opened in CS3, Autolevels.

Right--a completely useless comparison. Small changes in output levels at the C1 level may change the look.

But honestly, are you positive you didn't change the way PS does its auto-levels / auto colour? It sure looks like auto colour on the bottom one to me. You didn't like, submit a JPEG one time and a TIFF the other time? Different ICC profiles maybe? Maybe using C1 v5 perceptual output instead of relative colorimetric?

Something isn't right with PS there. I've output three full weddings now from C1 V5 based on V4 settings and the colour differences, while there (due to profile tweaks), just aren't that great.

It has nothing to do with C1, IMO.

I usually don't do Auto Levels. Both are original TIFF, Autolevels applied, then turned to JPEG in CS3.

One got that blueish cast. Don't know why. Reason I posted it here.

Why not just output them from C1 with exactly the same settings?

You're positive you didn't tweak the "per-channel" curves or levels control in C1 V5? They don't show if you click back to RGB and they won't be applied in V4)...

Bill,

The European upgrade process would not accept my LE serial number. Maybe because this was originally issued for version 3.7. I have another serial number from a San Disk promo copy and I will try this.

Positive, unless Gimini Cricket nudged my elbow unbeknownst.

If I have time I'll try to reproduce the thing.

Try doing it without going to Photoshop :) IOW, how different is the output you're getting from different versions of C1. Something isn't adding up!

Will do, sir ! :D (mezza voce : Gimini, stop nagging me, will you ?)

It won't work either.

I just got this from Phase One in confirmation:

Wilson,

There is, unfortunatly no discount upgrade to Capture One 5 PRO from your current version (LE). If you would like PRO the best way is to buy it outright for the price of €299.00.

Kind Regards,

Phase One Support

It's a bit steep though.

Unless I'm mistaking, I bought A2 and LR2 at upgrade prices,

not full prices. C1 should be more lenient here.

At 229, I was about to plunge. At 299, I'll wait to see LR3 pricing.

I agree. I will have a word with Jakub to see if they will do a deal for LE users to encourage them to upgrade to C1 V5 instead of using LR. They always seem nice people so they may see the logic of this.
