I am now the owner of a new M8 . For me I am as thrilled as some who are getting the M9. My only gear will be a M8 , 35 Cron , extra battery and small bag. No more shopping for me YAHOO!!! Now the challenge will be to master them. I am new to this forum ,I just wanted to say hello and I have learned a lot by just reading the post here! Some real talent on this site. Thanks.

Greyhound,

Welcome to the forum. Have fun with your new M8 and post some shots on the Photo forums. You will especially like the B&W results. Did you get a UV/IR filter? You will need it for color shooting.

Congrats!

As for myself, I'm waiting for my M8. I have a pending deal with someone, where we will make a trade for my Digilux 3 and some R lenses and some cash, however, I had to send my kit lens to the store where I bought my camera which was under the stores warranty. That was 8 or 9 weeks ago, of which they promised me would take 3 weeks. It turns out they sent it the Ontario leica dealer, which, turns out they sent it to the New York warehouse. I have absolutely no word on how much longer it will take. I just got off the phone with my rep at the store where I bought my camera, and he told me, that's the thing with Leica, you just don't know how long it will take to fix.

I just hope that the person I have this pending deal with doesn't get impatient and sells his M8 elsewhere.

Congrats, Greyhound! Like you, I just purchased an M8 and same lens about a week ago. I debated between the M8, M8.2 and M9 and decided on the M8 (and saved a few dollars in the end).

Wouldn't you know it, yesterday my local dealer in Orlando calls to tell me they had a new M9 in stock and asked if I wanted it! Argh! Well, at least it was a black M9 and I like silver, so that helped to ease the pain :) And I did appreciate the call... they were very patient with me as I tried to decide what my first Leica M lens would be.

Anyway, I'm having fun taking pictures of just about any and everything. Will post a few as soon as I get up the nerve.

Enjoy your camera!

Kimberly

Greyhound, welcome!

Your combination of M8 and 35mm Summicron will cover many many situations. I strongly recommend that you avoid the temptation to add more lenses until you have truly mastered the kit you already own. Gradually you will discover which situations require a different focal length. But take your time. Human legs often come to rescue a situation if you can or are prepared to seek the optimum shooting position. Enjoy your M8.

Thanks for the welcome . No problem on the avoiding adding to the lens collection , One camera, One Lens , One filter , One SD card , One battery , ...........Geez I'm stating to sound like Bono on a old U2 sound. "One" I now need to post at least one picture. Thanks

You got everything right, except, *two* batteries. The M8 is very sensitive to low voltage. Below the 1/3 mark, you may get strange behavior.

Welcome. I recently aquired an M9 but plan on keeping and using my M8. Your gonna love it. Which 35 cron? I have the v. IV, pre-asph and love it on the M8...though the asph version is stupendous. Please post images in the photo section.

I had a little spare time to shoot a little today. Level one question sorry , I resolved to only shoot raw so I set the compression to DNG only. When I down loaded to the apple to convert ( Capture one) never have used by the way , my apple iphoto down loaded the pics from the SD card reader from the SD card without conversion. Am I just confused with raw and DNG with the M8 ? No conversion required. Am I missing something ?? I researched Raw vs DNG before looking like I just ate a bowl of stupid but I found some are converting raw files into DNG before they even start processing . I have Aperture as my edit program. I hope this makes sense. I guess what I am asking is to get the best file do I just set compression to DNG . If my Apple opens it w/o a need for conversion thats great??
