This thread is really funny.

I would like to see the ISO menu and the SET menu merged on my M9 as I have to press two buttons to get two different sets of information...;)

Maybe it's useful for M8 and M9 owners to be able to read specific Forums and not to have to sift through twice as many posts.

I vote for Andreas.

Andreas has spoken, and has made good sense.

Subject closed, IMO.

Next agenda item?

Regards,

Bill

It is Andreas Forum so I guess we have to leave it at that.......and NOT do what the majority of forum members that responded want. That includes you Bill as you said "Yes- Later" and that appears to no longer be an option now or in the future. Pity.

Merge them all, I say. Merge them all. ;)

Redbaron Last week you posted on a thread "about M9 improvements vis M8" and accused my inputs as "Being here for the hunting!" ...however as usual you offered nothing specific. Then you tell us that you shoot film and do not have a M8 or M9...and hence I can understand that you have no input to give....Hmm!

Today you give another valuable input. I am becoming more convinced that you are actually a "Troll"

Why can't you just accept what Andreas has written and leave it at that?

It's Andreas's forum so he can clearly do as he likes but does this mean that Frank can't express an opinion about it? Bizarre. It might pay to remember that the forum is absolutely nothing without the contributions from members.

FWIW, I think there should be two subforums - 1) Leica M Photography 2) Everything else.

Of course Frank can express an opinion, but he asked a question, and Andreas gave three very good reasons why merging the two sub-sections is less than desirable from his point of view.

Andreas hasn't ruled out merging them at some time in the future, from what I can see, but if there are good reasons why keeping them separate is for the benefit of the whole forum, and not just two sub-sections, then that's fine in my book.

Personally, I'm glad not to see these merged. There's the usual static going on after the introduction of a new camera on the M9 forum about its value as a working tool, flaws etc. and since I have no interest in the M9, and prefer the M8, I prefer not to have to sift through threads on the M9 to get to M8 topics.

If we redefine the M8 as the M9-1 then we call all post in the M9 forum - problem solved :D

This is also my belief ....!

I feel that despite this being Andreas forum I ask him to relook. Andy says that Andreas has NOT ruled out sometime in the future merging M9 and M8. I also believe that this is what we were told 09/09/09 or at about that time that the two Forums would be merged in the near future once the M9 frenzy had subsided and that was suggested as two months from launch date ...ie early November.

I am therefore surprised that the various obstacles identified by Andreas have now been raised, and if they are real show stoppers that means we can never have a merged Forum....Andreas is this true? I hate to be painful but respectfully ask you to relook and/or redo the survey as quite clearly many of us that regularly try to contribute seem to feel a digital M merge makes a lot of sense. .

Thanks

Andy says that Andreas has NOT ruled out sometime in the future merging M9 and M8.

I did NOT say that. Please do not put words into my mouth. It is a very annoying habit you have of "almost" quoting someone for your own purposes.

What I actually said, only a few posts north of this one, is

You will note that I have added emphasis, this time, so to make it absolutely clear what I believe to be Andreas's current position. But, as I have pointed out before, Andreas has already stated his current position on page two of this thread.

I'm off to develop some film...

I am glad the M8 and M9 have separate forums and hope they remain that way. When I want to read specifically about the M9, I am glad not to have to wade through a bunch of M8 posts. It would be quite bothersome to read posts about lenses and then have to try to figure out if the person is talking about using them with a cropped or full frame sensor.

Acually I too have little ineterst in the M9 but that is where all the new interesting threads are happening, and it is where Leica I suspect are focussing. They will for example:

  • Need to get firmware fix for the shutter lockup issue...which is also a M8 unfixed problem.
  • Need to focus the issues of Lightroom 3 Beta release and the profiles for M9...Most likely LR3 will have relevance for M8 users also.
  • Most likely already be developing M10 at Solms and this will be driven by inputs from both M8 and M9 users I would hope.

If the M8 and M9 are never to be merged and the camera life cycle for digital technology is likely to get shorter does that mean we shall in future enjoy a M8 Forum, a M9 Forum and a M10 Forum......I suspect that is not a good idea, but if that is what is planned fine.

I don't see much point in merging the forums. The M8 and M9 are really quite different given the crop factor and sensor issues, so discussions about lens choices for example, will be specific to one camera or the other (as we have already seen some lenses behave quite differently on the FF M9 sensor).

The M8 is now a 'mature' product so the M9 forum can concentrate on all of the early adopter issues etc.

It also makes it easy for new visitors to the forum looking for M9 information - and Andreas has pointed out that this is bringing a lot of new traffic here which can only be a good thing.

If that's what you feel, start some interesting threads in the M8 sub-section ;)

Or even, how about posting some photographs in the Photo section? Now there's a radical idea :)

I see you are hell-bent at stirring up another storm in a teacup.

I expressed an opinion. Andreas presented facts. You presented cod statistics. No contest.

"8 out of 10 owners said their cats preferred it"

"8 out of 10 owners that expressed a preference said their cats preferred it"

See the difference?

No, probably not.
