stunsworth Posted November 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Another place is the name of the sculpture that Antony Gormley has created in the beach at Crosby in the North-West of England - just a few miles up the coast from Liverpool. Dozens of life size casts of the artists have been put on the beach and are revealed and covered as the tide moves in and out. There were more people here looking at, and photographing, the statues than I was expecting. Of course one of the interesting things about the piece is the way the sea water affects and corrodes the metal. Somewhere to return to before the sculptures are removed for sure. The light was fantastic, brilliantly clear winter light illuminating the statues in the late afternoon. I arrived just after high tide and spent an hour or so photographing the statues as the tide fell. stunsworth Posted November 26, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 26, 2006 Andy, by the time I left the light had gone completely - heavy cloud over the Wirral/Wales :-)
elansprint72 Posted November 26, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2006 I propose Liverpool as the next outing for the Cheshire Three, the Famous Five or the Secret Seven. Nice lighting on the rust, presume you did not have to get wet? Cheers, Pete.
andybarton Posted November 26, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2006 There isn't _always_ heavy cloud over the Wirral. Honest. Anyway, lunch round at my place. First come, first served. But bring your own macaroons.
stunsworth Posted November 26, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted November 26, 2006 Pete, the tide was going out, so I'd probably have been better in a pair of wellies but I didn't really get wet. Andy, you're on. Perhaps we need to warn Mrs Dave in advance :-) Here's another. I had to stop myself from laughing when I heard a small child say to his mother, "Mam, he's got no knickers on" :-)
Rolo Posted November 26, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's another. I had to stop myself from laughing when I heard a small child say to his mother, "Mam, he's got no knickers on" :-) You been parading again Steve ? Presume the kid was referring to you ? I read in the news that these had to be removed in October as they were a health and safety risk. Off to New York I understood. Assumed it is OK for them to have such risks. So are they still there ? Until when, any idea.

stunsworth Posted November 30, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted November 30, 2006 John, Gormley is a British artist that has done some large scale sculptures. His most famous piece is probably the 'Angel of the North' in the north-east of England. This seaside sculture consists of 100 or so life size sculputes spread across 2 miles of so of beach just outside Liverpool. I need to go again sometime, but at low tide. Thanks for looking.
