Advertisement Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Hi JHAG, Take a look here Aperture 3 (X). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carlosecpf Posted October 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2009 Even though the current Aperture 2.1 version suits my need perfectly, I am looking forward to see what Aperture X will bring to the table!! Apple has been REALLY slow in providing upgrades to Aperture, specially if you compares to the late comer Adobe Lightroom.
pinetar Posted November 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2009 Chances are it will be for an Intel only machine. I can see a 27" iMac in the distant future.
jjb Posted November 11, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 11, 2009 Great news about next Aperture, and I hope it arrives even sooner!
Marty Posted November 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2009 While Aperture has been resting on its laurels, Lightroom has improved so much and so fast that Aperture 3/X will have to be pretty much perfect to make a dent and earn back customers who switched. John Thawley Posted November 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 12, 2009 Are you sure it's not the book that's coming by May? I'm hoping the program gets here sooner. While it's working "ok".... it doesn't seem to play as nicely with Snow Leopard as it did with its predecessor. JT
carlosecpf Posted November 13, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi John, I also use Aperture in Snow Leopard and have never faced any issues... Could you tell me more about the problems your are having?
John Thawley Posted November 18, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 18, 2009 Hi John, I also use Aperture in Snow Leopard and have never faced any issues... Could you tell me more about the problems your are having? Some niggley issues is all. If I close a library (shut down Aperture) and open another, it will reopen the previous one. It seems "stuck" and I'm betting is a bug with SL's ability to open programs quicker the second time you use them. My 5D MK11's files will bring Aperture to its knees. Literally. 2-3 minutes to roundtrip and image to PS. Sometimes a minute to render changes to a version. It's not as bad with 40D files and virtually no issues with Digilux 2 files. So... I've a hunch it's a resource issue. Aperture is and has always been a resource hog. Put this way, the heat generated from using Aperture takes the "lap" out of my laptop. Keep in mind, I shoot approximately 5000+ image per session... so I'm pretty sensitive to speed issues. Oh... exporting has really slowed down to. If I have to transmit 150 full size versions to my Photoshelter account, I'm looking at a couple of hours. Speaking of export, Apple really needs to address Aperture's ability to run export, import, preveiw/thumbnail generation in the background. When I have to transmit, it's brutal for me to have to stop editing. I honestly beleive the next upgrade won't be an upgrade. I think there are some fundamental issues within the philosophy of Aperture's architecture that will prevent future expansion of the programs functionality. They have to figure out local adjustments without round tripping things to an external editor or plug-in. The dodge burn tool is not a long term solution. The spot clone tool is not very responsive. They need to allow for local sharpening and so on. Don't get me wrong... I love the program. But it has some cracks in the foundation and they need addressing. I have over 200,000 images stored in Aperture libraries. Trust me... I'm cheering them on. LOL JT

Actually, if you look closely at the laundry list of what LR3 addresses, it's just starting to come up-to-speed with Aperture 1.5 and 2 -
