I hesitated to post this but I figured that it is an information service message and if the mods decided I am promoting or advertising they can remove it.

I was in R G Lewis in Holborn yesterday and they were promoting refurbished Digilux 2 cameras for £399. They are not brand new but they claim they have been returned to Leica to have their sensors sorted and then serviced and sent back. Certainly the one I looked at was not mint as far as cosmetics go but I assume they will come the usual 6 months warranty. They had a number available (I counted at least 4).

I don't know if this is a good price or not and I mention it because of the discussion in the forum about where to get one.

Big -

When my original D2 was damaged in Rwanda I found that the repair would be more than buying a used one. Leica checked to see if they had a "Demo" unit and offered it to me for $500. I took it and the unit I got was nearly mint. They only provided the camera, and even returned my old strap since a strap did not come with the "Demo" unit. At current exchange rates the RG Lewis ones, at about $670, is not out of line with the market.

I hope they are not selling mine! It went back to MK on 25th August and on to Solms for a new circuit board. I paid the £288 a while back but still no camera. :(

There was no mention of them changing the sensor (still original), I bet the thing fails as soon as I get it back. :o:(

Hi Louis - I was there last week and saw them too. They said they'd had 18 from Leica, and already sold 2. They were busy charging batteries for the ones they had in the window. I don't think they are boxed, and not sure whether they have the hoods either. He mentioned they would be sold with battery and charger , and 6 month guarantee, but I think that might be it. They looked quite well-used though!

Of course it arrived back this morning, packed in a champagne Laurent Parrier box!

First impressions: the rubber covering has been replaced (not with leather, as it said on the invoice :(), it has not been cleaned and has a huge scratch across the rear screen which was not there before. Fortunately I had a screen protector film fitted and the scratch has not penetrated this. Not quite what I expected.

Louis & Jon

Thank- you for your post bringing to our attention the availability of the Digilux 2 cameras in London.

I decided to buy a D2 and I'm pleased to say that my camera is in near mint condition, and included in the origiinal box was a Leica battery, strap, square lens hood and hood cap, lens cap, together with a new none Leica battery charger and leads.

Len Lions and his staff at R.G.Lewis were really helpful and safely packaged and arranged delivery to the wilds of Cumbria.

I am delighted with the camera and the trial photographs taken to date.

Just need more practise !

All the best to all the contributors to the forum who give their time energy, and for their good advice and opinions.

Regards

David
