John, to be honest the image has little to do with me, its entirely down to the camera.

An FZ at maximum 18x zoom (equiv 486mm), image stabilizer, 80iso, 250th, f/5.6 hand held. The EVF on all these cameras is very very good, and after an hour of learning the camera you are pretty much at home and can menu up anything you like with ease without taking your eye from the viewfinder. The files are very robust and take whatever editing you throw at them. I have yet to even bother looking at a RAW because I will get a JPEG pretty right out of the box. The image 'colour' is accurate enough, but it is also desaturated because that is what I liked. It could have been left vibrant or turned up if you like that sort of thing. Sure, hand me a DMR and a Leica 500mm lens and I would be pretty happy but I am sure the kit would cost more than AU$538 including spare batteries card case tripod lens cloth LCD protector whatever, and the FZ would still slay you with the auto focus in challenging conditions.

To give you an idea, the following from the same location with the bird cicled at 1x optical;

Rob, I'll probably stick with film but if ever I were thinking of going to digital, your photo and short explanation of the FZ would convince me more than any publicity or published reports.

Cheers, Ken.
