bill Posted October 27, 2009 Share #41 Posted October 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mr Burrellphoto, LCT has rightly made light of things, and you chose to take that the wrong way too. I have read the tone and tenor of your previous posts and noted that your style is robust and abrupt. I meet like with like. If my words offended your inner child, feel free to take it up with me via PM, otherwise don't whinge - it's not seemly. Regards, Bill

sean_reid Posted October 27, 2009 Share #42 Posted October 27, 2009 To be specific: The 24,28,35,50 and 75 frame lines on the M8 are optimized for .7 meters. The 90 frame lines for that camera are optimized for one meter. This latter difference is why some of us have found the 90 frame lines on the M8 to be more useful that those for the 75. The frame lines in the M8.2 are all, to the best of my knowledge, optimized at 2 meters (which I have found to be a superb compromise for my own work). The frame lines in the M9 are optimized for one meter. Cheers, Sean
Guest EarlBurrellPhoto Posted October 27, 2009 Share #43 Posted October 27, 2009 Mr Burrellphoto, Why arse with my name? What are you, ten years old? I have read the tone and tenor of your previous posts and noted that your style is robust and abrupt. I meet like with like. ...rather than follow forum rules/netiquette and take it up with me offline, or a moderator? There has never been anything other than straightforward in the "tone and tenor" of my previous posts. What bugs you is you were proven wrong. If my words offended your inner child, feel free to take it up with me via PM, otherwise don't whinge - it's not seemly.Turning your own issues straight back around and projecting them on me, is what's not seemly, amongst a group of presumably educated gentlemen. All overshot the framelines by a healthy margin (i.e. more was captured on the file than appeared in the framelines). My testing shows the M8.2 is framed closer to 1 metre. I believe the seminal M8 framelines were computed directly from the M7 lines, which had an in-built shrinkage to compensate for a slide mount. This I believe was rectified with the M8.2 and accounts for part of the disparity. Whatever the case, the M8.2 framelines are quite a bit more practical in daily photographic use, and I am disappointed that Leica chose to regress with the M9. bill Posted October 27, 2009 Share #45 Posted October 27, 2009 Ah, Mr BurrellPhoto, it seems I read you right. I'll leave you to your beliefs and disappointments. Regards, Bill

lct Posted October 27, 2009 Share #47 Posted October 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...Well in that case the M9 is not calibrated the way film Leicas (M6, M7, MP) are calibrated, which will be a bane to anyone who intends to shoot them together. Pity. ...Whatever the case, the M8.2 framelines are quite a bit more practical in daily photographic use, and I am disappointed that Leica chose to regress with the M9. The M9 could hardly be calibrated the same ways as film Ms and M8.2 altogether. Leica had to choose between 1 meter or 2 meters approximately. They chose 1 meter because Leica users are mostly amateurs disliking cropped close-ups i guess.
bill Posted October 27, 2009 Share #48 Posted October 27, 2009 Save your breath, LCT. Mr BurrelPhoto has no truck with anyone who points out any inconsistency in his world view. I for one am entirely happy that Leica have moved away from the evolutionary dead end and back to sanity. I see no issue with the M9 framelines compared to my M2 or M7, but then that's just the view of an amateur Regards, Bill
