Jeff S Posted October 14, 2009 Share #21 Posted October 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree, but my problem with the grey is that it does not go well with black lenses. I even prefer chrome lenses on a black M9. Ergo, you don't like black lenses...not on grey, not on black, just not. Jeff

michali Posted October 14, 2009 Share #23 Posted October 14, 2009 My M8 & M8.2 are both Black so I went for the Steel Grey finish this time. IMO all lenses look good on it, silver, black & chrome. I'm very happy with the colour. I must add that in the time I've been using it on my victims, they seem less intimidated than with a black camera pointing in their faces, could be that I'm just imagining this.......? carstenw Posted October 14, 2009 Share #24 Posted October 14, 2009 Mike, thanks for the photos, that helps to see how it looks. If you feel like it, could you perhaps repeat in the daytime in natural light, perhaps by the window? Flash makes it a little hard to discern the two shades of grey. carstenw Posted October 14, 2009 Share #25 Posted October 14, 2009 I believe that Leica at some point (the press conference?) said that they were making M9s in the proportion 2:1 black:grey.

michali Posted October 15, 2009 Share #30 Posted October 15, 2009 Carsten- Here are the daylight shots you asked for, it's been raining all day so the light wasn't great today. Even my 1939 50mm Elmar looks good on the Steel Grey M9! Welcome, dear visitor! eleskin Posted October 15, 2009 Share #31 Posted October 15, 2009 Ahh, I want CHROME!!!!! For $7,000 this should be an option, as it has been since the M was born! Somehow this painted stuff just ain't right! Kind of like taking a master print form Ansel Adams and placing it in a cheap Dollar Store frame! I still plan on buying one sometime next year (Chrome if possible, if not, Black is "ok", not my first choice but "ok", although just "ok" for $7000 just does not sound right does it? yanidel Posted October 17, 2009 Share #35 Posted October 17, 2009 Bad news for those waiting on grey units ... went to the Paris Photo Fair today and talked with a Leica person at their booth. Production is slow as they are ramping up a second shift. They expect to be working at full capacity sometimes in November. Grey's are not expected to ship in quantity until then. So basically, this is another month delay.... looks like it is now a Christmas gift ... Blacks one are shipping ... but one by one currently.
Jager Posted October 17, 2009 Author Share #36 Posted October 17, 2009 Thanks for the pics, everyone. They just emphasize my continuing preference for the Steel Grey (true chrome would be even better). I have several chrome lenses (which I prefer and will always buy in lieu of black versions, given a choice) and think they look better on the Steel Grey body. That all said, I don't think they look all that bad on black bodies. And so yesterday I stopped deliberating about it. I called my dealer and asked him to let me have whichever color he gets in next. I expect that will be black. And I will be delighted...
carstenw Posted October 17, 2009 Share #37 Posted October 17, 2009 Thanks very much, Mike (Michali?), that helps. I like the shade of grey very much, but I must admit that I don't like the combination of chrome dials and darker grey body so much, so I am beginning to lean towards a black M9. I tried my chrome 35 Lux ASPH on a black M9 in the store yesterday, and actually I really liked the way it looked, so either way there is no problem.
