thompsonkirk Posted April 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 12, 2009 Nice portrait - with rather odd 'bubble' bokeh? Kirk
richam Posted April 12, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 12, 2009 Kirk, Yes it's the lens bokeh, neither photoshopped nor filtered through beer. The effect is probably enhanced by the M8-style IR cut filter I leave on the lens for film b&w. I feel the filter is needed to protect the lens in a bar environment. stuny Posted April 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 12, 2009 Michael - I agree with Kirk and add that the light is really special.

richam Posted April 12, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted April 12, 2009 I really appreciate the comments about the light. It's made me think a bit more about light and how it affects my available light photos. It reminds me about the reason I post here -- to improve my thinking and therefore technique. In this case, the light to the left comes from a beer cooler with a fluorescent sign, and the right comes from two lights that illuminate the two dart boards -- as reflected in the back wall and mirror. (You can see the two reflections in her eyes from the dartboard floodlights.) It turned out by accident that she was in the only spot in the place that had this mix of light. I may try portraits of other friends from this spot, now that I have it identified. Thanks again.
