fastdap@mac.com Posted June 17, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, this is a common effect of the 35mm lux pre-asph when in back light or specular light situations, particularly evident when shooting wide open (which I always do). Are you using a filter? When using an older filter, not multi-coated, this effect is more pronounced. With a newer multi-coated filter, this effect is significantly reduced. Have fun, I love this lense while others look for the modern designs/calculations which have a very different feeling. Remember, this lense is a Mandler design, also responsible for the Noctilux; which is near impossible to flair but has other amazing characteristics when shot wide open. mark

fotografr Posted June 17, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 17, 2007 I like the glow for a picture like this. I also have that lens and have seen this effect many times. Even more than the glow, I like the expression on the young lady's face and your composition of the whole scene.
albert Posted June 17, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 17, 2007 Probably because I don't own any fancy lenses..... but it just looks blurry to me. I think it is very pretty and well composed... but way too blurry for me. This is why people go to horse races and bet money.

fotografr Posted June 20, 2007 Share #17 Posted June 20, 2007 Was this taken with the M8? The reason I ask is that I just noticed when I put my pre-asph 35 lux on the M8, something obstructs the focusing so it won't go all the way to infinity. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this.
ddp Posted June 20, 2007 Share #18 Posted June 20, 2007 Probably because I don't own any fancy lenses..... but it just looks blurry to me. I think it is very pretty and well composed... but way too blurry for me. This is why people go to horse races and bet money. I would say it has a nice soft look....but not blurry. It's certainly something you'd want to be aware of with this lens in normal use of course....but it's a lovely portrait.
albert Posted June 20, 2007 Share #19 Posted June 20, 2007 I think it has a nice soft look too.......peace is good.
pemayeux Posted June 20, 2007 Share #20 Posted June 20, 2007 Yes, a very nice softness. Nice portrait. I too like the performance of some of the older lenses. That is why I prefer to keep my 75 'lux.
