stuny Posted February 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) In Las Paza de Armas in Santiago, Polaroid photographers pose kids on stuffed ponies for a fee. The shy photographer makes me think of an amusing novel I read many years ago (The Shy Photographer by Jock Carrol. The opening line introduces a bush pilot named Shorty Nordheimer -- How'd he know my height?) pauledell Posted February 20, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2010 Stuart, The first shot is delightful and the second is hilarious. I think the street photographer does not want to reveal himself to a Leicaphite like yourself. Perhaps a lack of self-esteem? Paul
stuny Posted February 20, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted February 20, 2010 Paul - Thank you. That's one of very few times I've had people resist being shot.
vertekijker Posted February 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2010 Wonderfully atmospheric capture and beautiful colors, Stuart. I find myself hiding my face too when I see someone taking my picture, even though street photography is my thing... It is really more out of instinct than an attempt to sabotage a fellow photographer's efforts. -------------- Frans
allamande Posted February 21, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stuart, Fun pairing from this scene. The second shot is superb as it has so much going for it. Your handling of the light underlines his efforts to conceal his face. Brilliant. Guest s.m.e.p. Posted February 21, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2010 What camera did you use? For me there is too much sharpness in the background. I also think the photographer in the 2nd picture didn´t want to be photographed. Or did he show you that one picture costs 5 $?

stuny Posted February 21, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted February 21, 2010 S - D2 and smallish aperture. No, he was one of the few people I've ever shot who clearly didn't want to be shot. I clicked the shutted a split second after he raised his hand. John - Thank you.
elansprint72 Posted February 21, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 21, 2010 But they are just holiday snaps, surely? Sorry; I'm not sure about where "great, delightful, hilarious, wonderful(ly) or fantastic" comes in.
wilfredo Posted February 22, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 22, 2010 I wonder if there has ever been a tribute to these "Polaroid" photographers on street corners and plazas of the world? I don't know why but I feel a sense of camaraderie.
