Avatar Posted July 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Was out shooting today and got a "Card Full" message. The card wasn't full but I changed to another card and got the same error. I removed the battery and still got the error..Then one last time switched cards, took the battery out for a minute or two and it all sorted out and worked. I've been using a 32 Gig SanDisk for three months without a problem.. I upgraded to the newest firmware a few weeks ago and have used the same cards without incident. Anyone else ever had this issue with Monochrome or M9? Very busy and really don't want to part with the camera to send back but can't have this keep happening either. Scary! skinnfell Posted July 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2013 I also had this, along with just about every other electronic bug leica ms can have, after i upgraded firmware. (Flawless performance prior). The camera is now being swapped for a new one, but i do have a suspicion that the new FW created more issues than it solved... K-Photo Posted July 1, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2013 Was out shooting today and got a "Card Full" message. I had the same issue yesterday with a 16GB SanDisk. But the message disappeared after switching on and off and the rest of the day the camera worked normal. This was the first time that a used the camera seriously after the firmware update. I don't disagree...seems to be a bit slower in writing to the card in addition to the Card Full error...Not sure what this update was supposed to do in the first place. My Monochrome still seems to only take black and white images.
sm23221 Posted July 9, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 9, 2013 Maybe somebody can chime in as to which is the "best" card to use with the Monochrom?
renapearl Posted July 9, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, I had this issue with my M9. Nothing to do with the make of card. I just had to reset the file/folder numbers, The numbering had reached 1009999 or something similar, once re set, all was well. The next number started with a 101XXXXX
renapearl Posted July 9, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2013 I'd recommend the SanDisk Extreme 8GB (30MB) for the Monochrom, I tend to use a 4GB or even a few 2GB with my M9. Never had any bother with SanDisk Exreme. I was given a Lexar 4GB with the Monochrom but it tended to play up a bit.
skinnfell Posted July 10, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 10, 2013 I had this, plus banding and any other digital bug you can mention after upgrading. None before! Camera is now on the way to germany.
algrove Posted July 12, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 12, 2013 Never had an SD card issue with MM. I use Sandisk 32GB Extremes-older ones. Just make sure you reformat to the MM and not use M9 or M formatted cards. Recently sent my MM into NJ for a routine sensor cleaning as it seemed very bad after a 3 week trip and they replaced the entire sensor since it must have not been dirty, but "uncleanable"! Thank you Leica.
menos I M6 Posted August 9, 2013 Share #11 Posted August 9, 2013 I had the card full bug a few times on different occasions with my Mono. So far, I still run on my large stock of SanDisk 8GB cards (which I plan to change to another manufacturer, once I run low). My standard procedure when this issue happens is: - remove card, - lock card and proceed card for data recovery and discard SD card for any further use in a Leica camera - remove cameras battery - switch camera on/off with battery removed (no idea, if this still makes sense with Leica M cameras, but practiced this since early computer building days of discharging capacitors during bug squashing) - insert battery (preferably a fresh one, if still stock with me) - insert fresh card (I always carry several freshly in-camera-formatted spare SD cards, when I am out shooting with a Leica digital since on one occasion my M9 ate through several SanDisk 8GB cards, corrupting ALL of them to not be usable anymore in said M9, while they were perfectly usable in the M8.2) - switch camera on - format card in camera (yes, I prefer to do this redundantly, if time is sufficient) - continue shooting If time doesn't permit for the above elaborate sequence or I am out of spare cards/ spare batteries, this is my sequence instead: - drop battery (camera on or off, I don't care) - reattach battery immediately (no change to on/off switch) - retry a dry shot, to confirm, the camera exposes, the shutter works, and the camera writes to card - continue shooting ATTENTION: Very often a digital Leica M, that went through a bug of any sort will loose the last changes of menu settings just before the bug appears, if you have to drop the battery. This means in practice, that often you loose a change of ISO setting, you made just prior to the bug appears. Always re-check critical settings after a camera reset (ISO, lens correction data, self timer, colour settings, if you use the JPGs, etc …)! I am extremely vary of any firmware updates with Leica M cameras and am NOT the first to update with Leica M products (with other products and firmware updates, I am also vary, but often update fairly quick). I do run an older firmware on my M9 for the very reason, that the latest firmware has proven flaky with my M9 + SD cards + use of discreet mode + card write times. The newest M Mono firmware has proven to be sufficiently stable with my camera. The "card full bug" rears it's ugly head far less often, than the much more annoying discreet mode shutter re-cock delay, I experienced often before the firmware update with the original pre v1.0 firmware. I still experience a delay of shutter re-cocking from time to time with my Mono and the cards I use with the newest firmware. This is annoying, but in my experience is most of the time it happens just a long delay (~5 − 15sec) in write time, while the shutter will only re-cock after the red LED will stop blinking, signalling a write to card has been finished. I do not consider the digital M a stable platform and treat and use them accordingly (always redundancy, always spares with me, specifically several fresh batteries and several fresh cards + at least one spare body, if it counts). I have no experience with the Leica M10. As a side note - my M8.2 has served me now for many years with many different batteries, SD cards and with several firmware versions and has NEVER had an issue, as manifested with the M9 (severe) and Mono … makes me wonder, why the M8.2 is so rock solid in all respects. SarahS Posted September 5, 2024 Share #12 Posted September 5, 2024 I know this is an old thread, but I have only recently started using my Leica Monochrom 246. I got the "Full" error message with a 16 GB card. I put in a freshly charged battery, updated the firmware to the latest version and changed out my card to a 128 GB card, but got the same message today after shooting a few images at different times. So clearly it's neither the card nor the battery or recent or previous firmware version. I turned the camera off and back on, and it worked this time, but the first time it happened (with old card and firmware) it happened several times after turning on and off. My battery is charged. Does anyone else have any other ideas?
jaapv Posted September 5, 2024 Share #13 Posted September 5, 2024 Did you format the card in the camera? And clean the SD card contacts. (for instance with a swab and small amount of Eclipse - don't bend them.
