Part Number 22228/500934 problem with R ROM lenses

Recently acquired this 22228 R to M Adapter. Started seeing how various R lenses I have recently also acquired work on my Ricoh GXR with A12 mount with focus peaking.

 

All non-ROM lenses mount on the 22228 and focus perfectly. BUT, any ROM R lenses I try to mount, on this admittedly "early" adapter, will not mount since the ROM contacts get in the way of the bayonet mount, i.e., the lens will not even begin to turn because it will not seat in place.

 

I played with the new M adapter for R to M lenses at Photokina, but not really having any experience with R lenses at that time, I did not look to see which type of R lenses they were using on the new M-240 Adapter-3 cam or ROM.

 

Anyone have any insights if ROM lenses will work in the future or should they be de-ROMed?

 

I know this all sounds a bit stupid, but the ROM strip seems to be the culprit and prevents me from mounting any ROM lens on this pre-ROM adapter.

 

If anyone is using a ROM lens with an adapter that currently works on an M camera or an M mount on any camera, kindly give me some insight. Maybe there are new non-Leica adapters that are currently working fine with ROM lenses. Thanks.

My 222228 behaves the same. I guess the Novoflex adapter and certainly the new R adapter is unproblematic.

Jaap- Do you have a Novoflex adapter that works with your ROM R lenses or are you in a waiting mode for the new Leica adapter?

The problem is not the ROM. IIRC the 22228 is a Leicaflex-era adapter so the lens mount doesn't work with R-only lenses. The adapter can be modified to fit R-only lenses; the inner diameter of the flange needs to be trimmed slightly and in some cases the lens lock pin needs to be modified.

I have both the 22228/500934 R to M as well as the NOVOFLEX LEM/LER Adapter.

 

My APO-Telyt-R 1:4/280 doesn't fit onto the 22228/500934 R to M Adapter.

But it fits onto the NOVOFLEX LEM/LER Adapter.

 

In contrast my APO-Telyt-R 1:3.4/180 fits on both Adapters.

 

I also noticed that the male/camera end of the 22228/500934 R to M Adapter looks quite different from the corresponding end of the NOVOFLEX LEM/LER Adapter.

The former fits onto my Visoflex III, but doesn't fit onto my M9.

The latter seems to have a regular M-bayonet and fits onto my M9.

 

So what use does the 22228/500934 R to M Adapter have for the M-240?

 

I also noticed that the red plastic lever easily comes/breaks off from the 22228/500934 R to M Adapter.

Can that plastic lever be replaced with a more robust metal one? Could DAG help with that?

Yes, yes, and DAG can also modify the 22228 so that R-only lenses may be used.

3-cam lenses are not R-only. R-only lenses are either 3rd-cam (also called R-cam) or ROM.

Hello K-H,

 

The 22228 was an adapter which allowed circa 1970's Leicina movie cameras, which used an "M" mount but otherwise had their own lenses, to use Leicaflex lenses as well. There were also adapters to use Minolta lenses, "C" mount lenses & adapters to use other lenses on the Leicina as well.

Well, that depends. You could also wait for the new Leica Adapter or get an inexpensive one from Fotodiox:

Indeed, both NOVOFLEX Adapters, the NEX/LEM and the LEM/LER are so well made that I can focus the 280/4 lens with a NEX camera, swap adapter and camera, and shoot with an M9, lens still in focus.
