Holmz Posted April 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I stumbled upon this today when making my Y strap today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dNj7R24ztw But this is only for MP or M7, so what options are there for an M8? I am thinking if I can find the cheapest M-mount to Canon, nikon etc, then I would have the female side for the lens to fit into and attach a 1/4 thread to go into the base of the camera. Any ideas for an inexpensive M-mount in female gender? I would use one of the plastic caps, but want something where the lens clicks in better. Welcome, dear visitor! footnoteblog Posted April 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 19, 2009 You could glue two M rear lens caps together.
giordano Posted April 19, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2009 Here's one I made earlier: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/52226-m-lens-holder-m8-merged-thread.html
enboe Posted April 19, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 19, 2009 Even for the classic M owners, I would be very hesitant in recommending the lens carrier. I used one with my black chrome M7, still with the plastic on the base plate, and the rubbing action between the carrier and the base plate caused wear to the base plate finish through the plastic protector. An expensive lesson. For the M1-M3 users, there was a 2-lens accessory baseplate that shows up on auction now and then. As for solutions, nothing innovative here. A small digicam belt case holds a second lens and cloth nicely. So does a second body, which is my next goal. Eric
jevidon Posted April 20, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2009 Given the apparent fragility of the M8 base plate as evidenced by prior threads, you are better off with a photo vest or a Lowepro belt and clip on pouches. A new plate is more than I'd guess you or anyone else in their right mind would like to spend.
lars_bergquist Posted April 20, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 20, 2009 We had the old Benser Baseplate, a non-Leitz item for the M3 and M2 cameras (it did of course work for the M1 and MD cameras too). This had two camera-side bayonets, with proper locks, one at each end. This was very handy: you dismounted lens A and put it in the empty baseplate bayonet, and then you took lens B from its place on the baseplate and mounted it. That way there was no need to juggle two lenses and one camera body simultaneously. It is true that film-age M photogs were supposed to have three arms, but many of us were not born that way, not even in India. The Benser Backplate was liked by some photojournalists that worked with a minimal kit, but it was never manufactured to accommodate the new loading system of the M4, and now it is largely forgotten. There were of course no photo vests in those days--they would not have been regarded as Proper Attire--so the alternative was the rigid, unwieldy "midwife's case" as Theo Scheerer's own wife used to call it. It was like carrying a sewing machine around. A drawback of the Benser Base was of course that it made a film change a bit clumsy. One bayonet sat on top of the baseplate lock, which had to operate by a coin slot instead of the classical toggle, but that is no longer a problem. And of course you lost the tripod bushing. Which I practically never use. Maybe the Benser Baseplate should return? Now when we can change baseplates anytime, without even a changing bag, it takes on additional practicality. I hope you find this thread I started most interesting! http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/61111-m-lens-holder-leica-flash-bracket.html Strange. I just sold the spare lens holder (just today!) to someone in Seattle for his M6. I had picked up an extra one, and thought I would have another one cut. Oh well! Good luck in any event!
