TimF Posted November 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) No, not that one! I just bought an old L39 50mm f/1.5 Summarit, which I'd like to use on my M8. This has an E41 filter thread, which size isn't available in the B+W range. So, the question is, would their 40.5mm filter fit OK, or do I need to go up to the 43mm one and get a stepping ring? TIA

TIA The 40.5 filter doesn't fit the Summarit or the Xenon. I even tried removing the 40.5 glass from a filter and put it in to a 41mm empty filter frame. That doesn't work either. I ended up using a 41 to 46 step up ring and a 46mm UV/IR filter. It works fine. I also bought a generic 46mm lens cap to keep the dust out. Fortunately I have two lenses that take a 40.5mm filter so I didn't lose anything. Len
lars_bergquist Posted November 27, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 27, 2008 The B+W catalog I have lists a very full offering of filters in E41 size (M41x0.5mm). Is the thread pitch different in this case? The old man from the Age of 36mm Aufsteck
jaapv Posted November 27, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 27, 2008 The size IS available. I bought a B&W 41 last year at Foto Huppert. It is a special order and takes about two to three weeks.

Len If you remove the filter glass from an original Summarit filter (banjonet) the 40.5 will screw into there.

It is a special order and takes about two to three weeks. I bought a 41mm B+W UV Haze filter last year but did not see the UV/IR in their catalog. I really would like to have the right filter. While it works I really don't like the step up ring approach. Thanks for the info. Len
