Snakepottery Posted March 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have decided to go for recovering my lovely M8! Looking at CameraLeather, it looks like the Black Kid leather is pretty good. Has anyone got a picture of your M8 in that covering? I have had quite an email conversation with Morgan and whilst it is expensive, I think it would look great! Also I have to say that I am impressed with his speedy resonse by email, in some cases a matter of hours! And on a Saturday, although of course it may well have been Friday where he is! Anyway, a really helpful chap. If anyone ahs a pic that would be great! Thanks Andy

marknorton Posted March 21, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2011 Take a look at this thread which I started towards the end of 2007... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/38894-how-re-cover-your-m8-yourself.html#post407220
Snakepottery Posted March 22, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 22, 2011 Hi Mark, thanks for the pointer to the thread! Exactly what I needed! I was thinking I may get some cheap covering to try first rather than mess up £60 worth of kid leather! I'm a practical person but it looks like it would be fairly easy to get it wrong? jaapv Posted March 22, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 22, 2011 Actually it is quite easy, and you can cover critical protrusions like the frameline lever with some alcohol.
Snakepottery Posted May 12, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted May 12, 2011 Well, I finally got my black kid leather cover from Morgan! It took a while but after looking through some archives about this, it seems to be normal. Anyway, just finished fitting it and it looks and feels like a million dollars! So much better then the orginal M8 covering! Thanks to the goat who "donated" it for me! Well pleased, and can't recommend Morgan enough, just be prepared for a wait and no replies to emails after the order is placed! Cheers Andy

efix Posted May 13, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 13, 2011 Dude, get your rf windows cleaned! ;-) How long did you have to wait? I've been wanting a mahogany kid skin leatherette for a couple months now, and after finally deciding to get one and inquiring with him several weeks ago, I didn't yet get a reply. Snakepottery Posted May 13, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted May 13, 2011 LOL!!! I just knew someone would comment on that! As soon as I looked at the post I thought, oh, a very grubby rangefinder window! With Cameraleather, you just have to be very patient. I ordered mine a around 5-6 weeks ago. What seems to happen is that Morgan responds to emails up until you have paid. From then on nothing! I emailed probably twice and received no reply. After looking through the archives discovered that this was normal so stopped worrying. I think it is a second job for him and he is very busy. Still, the quality of the cover is superb. A perfect fit and only took at most an hour to do. Andy
epand56 Posted May 15, 2011 Share #11 Posted May 15, 2011 Andy, is the skin self adhesive? Looks great on your camera.
Snakepottery Posted May 16, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi Enrico, Yes, very! You need to be really carefully to get it in the right place before pressing down. The most awkward was to get the bits of leather into the slots around the lens cover etc. Mark Norton has an excellent article on it, see the reference to it earlier in this thread. I jst followed it to the letter and had no real problems.
sbaruche Posted May 16, 2011 Share #13 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi which of the three black leather did you buy levant black black beauty or restoration leather Thanks Sylvain
jaapv Posted May 17, 2011 Share #14 Posted May 17, 2011 Black beauty can be a bit thick for a top result. Btw, Andy, you can push the area around the strap-lugs in using something like a spatula you get from an icecream.
Snakepottery Posted May 17, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted May 17, 2011 Hi Sylvian, Neither, it is the black Kid Leather. Andy
Snakepottery Posted May 17, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted May 17, 2011 Hi Japp, I never thought of that but did have a similar tool that did the job. Still fiddly though. It really is sticky stuff! Andy
Double Negative Posted May 27, 2011 Share #17 Posted May 27, 2011 That looks nice and plush! Tough choice between it and the Griptac, Let's be honest... Anything is better than the default "sharkskin" covering!
