lpeeples Posted October 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can use some advice.... Recently, when shooting sunrise images (Detroit), I'm seeing a series of blue dots in many of the images. Leica Test - Louppls These are all unedited. I'm not sure if these are stars or defects in the sensor. My lenses are 35/1.4, 75/2 and 90/2. Use a M240 (less than a year old). I looked at the sensor with a sensor loupe and it seems clean. Any thoughts?

TomB_tx Posted October 12, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2014 Looks like reflections from a (protective) filter. If you have a filter on the lens, try the same shots without it.
Alberti Posted October 12, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2014 Does indeed remind me of the good old times of the UV filter on the M8. After some time I let go of the filters, results were better. As POP elaborates.

Three Legged Cat Posted October 12, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 12, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe this has something to do with it. I went to unscrew a clear filter and a part of lens that the filters screw into came off my 75... Strange coincidence, but today I unscrewed the clear filter on my 75/2 for the first time to check for dust on the lens, and the inner part of the lens came along with it too just as yours has... I haven't decided what to do about this yet - it's still under guarantee, but it screwed back in OK. I don't think I've noticed any issues re. spots on my photos as you have experienced from my 75/2, but I'll have a look and report back if I find any. It looks like this ring is held in place lightly with only one 'spot-weld' - maybe it's a common issue on the 75/2 when a filter is attached that the force of it's removal overcomes this weld? I certainly hadn't over-tightened it, but maybe I'll forget about a filter too from now on...
lpeeples Posted October 12, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted October 12, 2014 I didn't over tighten either. I'm going to send it in however. For what I paid, I don't want to compromise. I may skip a clear filter, but I do use ND's and am sure this will happen again if its not fixed. Hopefully its a quick fix.
John McMaster Posted October 12, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 12, 2014 Happened on my 75mm Summicron as well, sent it to Solms john
pop Posted October 12, 2014 Share #10 Posted October 12, 2014 I do not think the problem has anything to do with parts of the lens coming off. We're seeing reflections of bright small light sources within the image. The light bounces off an even number of glass surfaces and results in bright spots. In some of the images you can even discern in the reflections the haze or fog around the original lights in the scene, I fancy.
