Lombok is the first big island east of Bali. The top of Rinjani, left in the picture, is the second highest peak in Indonesia, after the snow capped mountains - not for much longer - on New Guinea. Crater rim at photo point: 2650m: Garmin GPS details: 01/08/2007 16:50:08 2650 m S8 23.049 E116 24.011 M8 plus WATE at 18mm. The V/UR filter probably caused the reflections at the right. How long did it take to climb and decent?Best It is a 2000 meter climb. Some people do it in one day: your have to start very early. The decent is done in one day, and your limbs suffer for days afterwards :-) We climbed it in a comfortable two days. I would do it again tomorrow if you invited me: it was just wonderful! The view from the rim is breathtaking. We arrived at 15:00h with lots of clouds in the caldera. It cleared totally later, till sunset, and the views unto Bali were great.
