Willy Fog Posted July 16, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello! I'm happy, really happy! Just two days ago I was asking for my first Leica, my idea was to buy it for Christmas, but looks like will be not for Christmas, will be for this week! Mi idea was to wait till Christmas but If I have luck and I find a nice price then I'll buy it before... Looks like the one I've found is in perfect condition and good price. Well, I've been searching in internet till late today, and I've found a Silver M6TTL near my home, I even can go walking to check it tomorrow. The camera looks perfect!! Complete with box and documents. The final price is 1130€=1390$. Do you think is a good price? If you think is a good price, tomorrow I'll buy it, if you think I that the price is not good at all, then I'll wait. Thank you! Regards Welcome, dear visitor! gvaliquette Posted July 16, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2012 It's a fair, but not exceptional, price for an M6 TTL in perfect condition, judging from recent e-Bay sales. Enjoy Christmas in July! Guy
madNbad Posted July 16, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 16, 2012 Buy it. It's a fair price, nice condition and a good user for your first Leica. There is always a better deal tomorrow or around the corner but sometimes you just need to jump. Look at prices on KEH and E-Bay and see if you can strike a better deal. Good luck. earleygallery Posted July 16, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 16, 2012 Just a word of caution, don't go with cash in hand. You wouldn't be the first person to be mugged by a fraudulent 'seller'!
smb Posted July 16, 2012 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2012 That is the initial price. I am certain that you can negotiate further with the seller. This is actually a fair price for this camera. What happened?

Yes, I think I'll buy it. In the photo looks in perfect condition. As far as I know, the seller is a woman and she is a professional photographer. The cheapest I saw is for 900€uros, but for this prices, the camera are sold very fast. Thank you!

Thank you for your advise. We will meet in her photo studio. I told her that first I want to see it, if looks ok, later today or tomorrow we will meet for the money. I collect watches, so is the same, if you meet a person to close a deal you should meet in a restaurant or coffe shop, not just in the street . Scarlet Posted July 17, 2012 Share #10 Posted July 17, 2012 It's an M6TTL from 2001 according to the serial number in Puts's list, one of a batch of 5,000 made then. Looks to be in very good condition, seems like it still has the protective plastic on the bottom plate. I can't see which VF magnification it has but Collectiblend reports "very good" prices between 1300-1500$ and "mint" prices between 1800-3000$ for the .58, .72 and .85 magnifications. My own M6TTL is also from this year and works flawlessly. I say buy.

My own M6TTL is also from this year and works flawlessly. I say buy. Hello! I bought it, looks nice but I will compare the light meter with the other M6TTL that my brother-in-law borrowed me. I think there is something rare...The don't show the dot on with the same exposure! This a .72 One more think that make me think, the bottom plate doesn't have the CE sticker, is this normal? But yes, still have the protective plastic. Regards
TomB_tx Posted July 17, 2012 Share #12 Posted July 17, 2012 I bought it, looks nice but I will compare the light meter with the other M6TTL that my brother-in-law borrowed me. I think there is something rare...The don't show the dot on with the same exposure! The original M6 light meter had no dot: just two LED arrows pointing towards each other. You would set exposure by adjusting until both were lit equal brightness. I thought on the TTL that both arrows would go out and thecenter dot "on" at correct exposure, but if both arrows are on at the same time it could be the older style meter. If the "dot" works, but at a different exposure setting than the other ttl, how much different? Cameras often vary by a half-stop or so.
andyedward Posted July 17, 2012 Share #13 Posted July 17, 2012 Your M6 sounds like a pre MP version. Some changes were made to the M6 following the MPs introduction

TomB_tx Posted July 17, 2012 Share #16 Posted July 17, 2012 Why? I think it's a normal M6TTL:confused: It's fine. We just misunderstood your "no dot" comment on the meter. Don't worry about the half-stop, as that much variation is normal between cameras. Since you are comparing only two, you don't know which might be off, or maybe each is 1/4 stop in different directions. People often set the ISO for film a bit different than it is rated if they like the exposures better that way aftery using the camera. So try some film in it - I bet you'll find it is fine. My fault, sorry. I'll try, I just shoot my first and only film today So, I bought a Leica M6TTL and I have a 0 experience with film... I hope that adventure will be very interesting . Tomorrow I'll go to buy some batteries and film. I'm going to China for business one week, so if I have time I'll walk the streets and shoot a lot! just to get practice. Messsucherkamera Posted July 18, 2012 Share #18 Posted July 18, 2012 Congratulations! Judging from the pictures, you have a really nice, minty clean M6 at a reasonable price. It's good to hear that the transaction went off without a hitch. I was going to suggest making the buy in a busy coffee house or restaurant at lunch time if you had concerns about the seller's true intent as observed by earleygallery in #4 above. Welcome to the world of Leica - if you are married, your spouse will rue the day you fell victim to the M camera passion/obsession/compulsion/labor of love.
