I purchased some Adox 20 CMS.

It's awesome!

I shoot M6 with Summarit 50.

1/125 at 4 with yellow filter

Scans with Plustek 7400 at 3600 dpi - Linear scan

I love it!

Some pics.

Look at Duomo and at the crop of the window.

The contrast is too high.

The negative was overdeveloped.

Any suggestions for suppliers? It certainly isn't available in NZ.

Ditto with the AdoTech 2.

Out of curiosity I searched B&H as well, they have Efke, but no Adox.

It's a loaded question, as I am about to pull the trigger on film and chemicals, and the lay off I have had since being involved in B&W has meant that the usual film and chemicals have changed/evolved, and I am not well behind the 8 ball. I am about to post a "help" thread, but am also mindful that most are in the northern hemisphere and stock is more plentiful that here. An example, I used and would like to again use, Rodinal. It is not at all available here.

There are two sources for Adox I known in the UK but I guess that doesn't help you much. Anyway they are Silverprint (Silverprint - Home - News - Photographic Materials and more -) and Ag Photographic (Ag Photographic. The Specialists for all traditional photo products.). I got the 120 Adox film from Ag.

As to Rodinal both the above can supply it - note Ag supply Adox ADONAL an exact copy of Rodinal.

Do a search for Freestyle Photographic Supplies. I believe they may be able to help you. I am ordering some Adox CHS 100 to try.

Yes, I buy Adox CMS 20 and the Adotech developer from Freestyle; but do note that the above-mentioned CHS 100 is NOT the same emulsion as the CMS 20 at all. For the finest results with shadow detail, I shoot my Adox CMS 20 at ASA 12 and developed for 4' 30"; while still others have claimed that its best shot at ASA 6 and developed for 4'! It is a wonderful slow film.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello!

I will develop my first film ever soon! I am completely new to film photography and development... Before screwing everything up, I would like to get some help on this development routine which I built using several sources:

Equipment used

TANK: Jobo 250ml for 1 roll (35mm)

Film: adox cms 20

Developer: Adotech II

Fixer: Adofix

Stoppbath: Vinegar 25%

AT ISO 20

The routine:

DEVELOPMENT:

10 minutes at 24°C (as indicated on the adox cms 20 datasheet)

30s agitate permanently, then every 30s once

Question: "once" every 30seconds means just one agitation up and down? Nothing more ?

STOP BATH:

250ml 25%Vinegar 1+10 => ~2.2%

Question: how long? is agitation needed? which temperature ? Is the temperature for the stopbath that important?

FIXING:

30 to 60s at 20°C (as indicated on the adox cms 20 datasheet)

The ADOFIX Datasheet indicates a dilution of 1+4 or 1+9 with a fixing time of 4minutes or more.

The ADOX CMS indicates a fixing time of 30 to 60seconds.

Question: What time and what dilution should I go for ?

RINSING:

2 to 5 minutes with tap water.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Olivier

Hi Oliver,

the answer is you have to try and to find what best fits your taste.

I reverse 1 times every 30 seconds during development.

I agitate the stop bath for "about" 30 seconds. "About" means that i do not check time with a cronometer. Just check your writs watch.

I use Kodak stop at the suggested diluition: 16 ml in one liter.

Fixing time is not a prblem.

Not to short, not too long is good.

I use T-Max fixer at the diluition suggested on the bottle for 3 minutes.

Results are good.

The true difference among fixers is with or without hardener.

Hardening fixers require a long wash or a Hipo Cleaning agent.

Do not think to much: just try and decide for your taste.

No rules, just experiment.

Ciao
