Tenor1 Posted March 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm using a MAC and having problems transferring the update from the card to the camera. In playback the screen says "No Valid Picture to Play." From that point I press "Menu/Set" and select the tool icon, then to "Version Disp." After that the screen says "Firmware Ver.1.0" rather than the "Version Up" screen as shown on the instructions. The update does show on the memory card in the correct column. Can someone help? roberts2424 Posted March 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2009 1. Format the memory card. 2. Insert it back into the camera. 3. Mount the camera and the memory card will mount on your desktop. 4. Drag the update file directly to the memory card icon and let it copy. 5. Unmount your camera from the computer. 6. Place the camera in Playback and PowerUp. It should see your firmware update and then you can proceed accordingly. I hope I answered according to your concerns. === using a MAC and having problems transferring the update from the card to the camera. In playback the screen says "No Valid Picture to Play." Tenor1 Posted March 26, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted March 26, 2009 Unfortunately, both these suggestions did not work. I recharged the battery overnight. I'm not sure why it is not working.
ho_co Posted March 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 26, 2009 Carlos-- I'm sure it's something very simple. Did you unzip the download file before transferring just the update file to the card? Did you drag the file to the top level of the card? (You'll know you did it right because as soon as you turn on the camera, it will ask if you want to update the firmware.) Did you download the instructions with the update? Go through them again step by step. You're almost there. You've done everything right except one measly cockeyed item. ... The update does show on the memory card in the correct column.... What does that mean? What is the "correct column"? What is the name of the file you see there? If none of these suggestions are working, could you post a screen image of the "file in the correct column"?

brucek Posted March 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the camera in Program mode? Although the instructions don't specifically say that is required for the update they do specify it to check the existing FW version. I'm not sure it really matters but just in case... jaapv Posted March 26, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 26, 2009 i too am having issues updating off my mac i formatted card (1st time in camera- 2nd time using disk utility and reader on my mac) That is where you went wrong. FIRST format in the computer, THEN format in the camera. The update won't work from a card that has not been formatted in the camera. The update file should be in the root, together with a DCIM folder and a MISC folder.

ceflynn Posted March 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted March 26, 2009 The instructions state that the card should be formatted in the camera: Preparation of the SD Memory Card A minimum of 8 MB available memory is necessary. Please format the SD Memory Card before using with LEICA D-LUX4. Please format the SD Memory Card only in the camera. Refer to your instruction book for more details (Page 47). You will find the menu item FORMAT in the SETUP menu of the camera. When formatting the SD Memory Card, all data, including protected files, will be erased and can not be recovered. Please make sure to back up your important data so you don't loose it.
ho_co Posted March 27, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 27, 2009 I'm at a loss. I want to see posts saying "Great! It worked!", not, "Well, I'm having problems as well." The instructions say to use an SD card. Could it be that you're using an SDHC card? I can't see how that could make any difference, but something is peculiar. SDHC cards work fine Howard --- that's all I own at this point, and the update worked for me without a hitch. I'm also on a Mac, for what it's worth. Jeff. ho_co Posted March 27, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 27, 2009 Thanks, Jeff, that's what I expected. Just hoping. I'm on a Mac as well and just happened to use an SD card because it was small and available. Seems we've thought of everything else and these guys are still having problems. The process is so simple, there's not much that can go wrong. As I see it, so long as the cameras have firmware 1.0, we're all starting from the same place. Can't be a defective camera because it's the firmware that runs the update.
burkey Posted March 27, 2009 Share #14 Posted March 27, 2009 Another Mac user here. I've done firmware updates numerous times before on other cameras with no issues. The first couple of times I inserted the card I too had issues but after a couple of times it worked fine and the update was very fast. 'Not sure why it didn't "take" the first time but it did eventually work. . . . Burkey

Tenor1 Posted March 29, 2009 Author Share #16 Posted March 29, 2009 After 4 days of attempts the camera accepted the update. I don't know why it took so many attempts. I was following the instructions and followed the same steps each time. After all that I couldn't really see any difference, but I only took shots in my house thus far. Thanks to everyone, especially Burkey, who also made several attempts to accomplish this.
