Did you have problems with your Digilux 3 ?

It's a bit of a weird camera, but I rather like it. I think it is not better or worse than for instance a Canon 30D, but it looks a bit retro. I bought it because I was interested in the four thirds system.

It works always, never has any quircks, has a handy zoom as standard kit lens.

The only thing that is rather annoying, is the noise the thing makes. Lots of mirrors clicking and clacking, especially when you use life view.

But overall I like it!

No problems at all. It is a great camera. Not everyone likes it (probably because the expectations had been different after the Digilux 2) and newer cams have better specs (for lesser money), but I like the look and feel and the picture quality. Moreover, it is a lot of fun to use...

No issues yet - the only "minor" thing is an extremely faint "flickering" of the LCD screen especially near the horizontal lines. I also see, inside the viewfinder, the same flickering.

Otherwise, it works like a champ.

Underrated, overpriced, but a great and versatile performer.

Hi,

I'm a newcomer here on the LUF - I own a couple of Rs and a Panaleica L1 - it is in fact my second L1 as the Vario-Elmarit suffered from premature wear, and the set was kindly replaced after a year or so of intensive use.

I love this camera - my first digital - and use it regularly with R Leitz glass and Angenieux.

It offers all and every control I had wanted to find on a body - the only faults are well known, slow AF, noise above 400, and dim VF.

But it has become my pet camera from the first day.

I hope you enjoy the D3 as much as I its cousin L1.

I find it a pity we have to go Oly for more AF lenses ... when's Leica going to release a really WA zoom ?

Regards

Phileica

My D3 is a working camera and I have just sent it back to NJ for lens repair. The interior barrel that houses the lens elements and moves when zoomed has become extremely loose, moving side to side. I don't know if this is a manufacturing defect or the fact that it is used constantly for work and has done this from premature wear.

I also second a very short range Leica wide AF zoom -o-r really a prime - 10 or 11.

I have the Digilux 3, the Digilux 2, and the Digilux 1. (I have upgraded every time a new one comes along). I haven't had any problems, except for the much publicized sensor failure on the Digilux 2, which was upgraded free of charge by Leica.

I've had the Digilux 3 for almost 2 years now, and use it quite a lot. I have the kit lens, a 60mm Macro Elmarit-R, and a 135mm Elmarit-R. I like the camera very much, it is as close as one gets to an old style 35mm film camera. I especially like the shutter speed and aperture controls. On the downside, the camera does get a bit heavy to lug around after a while and it is too noisy for candid shooting. So sometimes I take the Digilux 2 out. The D2 is slower to shoot with, but it is very quiet (basically noiseless), it is light by comparison, and it has a very sharp lens.

Ditto Ditto Ditto.......etc.

Had mine since 2006 and very pleased.

No lens issues for me.................................................................so far.

I love the form factor.

I love the its looks, especially that it is not a common cam. Makes me feel different from others.

I just hate the paint finish of the body which can be easily scratched and the rubber grip of the lens loosens already. Maybe because I'm in a tropical country.

But overall, I'm happy with it.

Thanks for bringing this thread up, else I feel alone :)

I have owned a Digilux 3 for about 6 weeks now, however on the first one I received from Leica the menu button didn't work. There was no problem with Leica replacing the unit straight away.

So far, with the replacement, I am really pleased with the results. I agree with other posts on here in that it is a bit quirky - but the more I use it, the more I love it. The 14-50 2.8 lens is excellent. I've added a Metz flash and have had some great indoor shots too. One complaint is the noise at anything past 400asa.

i had the rubber grip loosen on my Digilux 2, leica replaced right away (once the part finally arrived). i also use R lenses with my Digilux 3 and love the flexibility the camera offers ...

i also "had" a DMR, recently sold it wating for the R10, but find the digilux 3 just great and will probably not go for the R10 unless it blows me away...im more interested in the Digilux 4 (a little better at higher iso, a littler faster then 2-3 fps) hopefully more lens options to come in 2008

I agree, I have an R8 and glass but I have really enjoyed my Digilux 3. It is well built and has had no problems. I am also on the fence regarding the R system vs the D system for my future use. I'm really liking the 4/3rds advantages.
