usm Posted February 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! I'm already posted this question in the german forum. Hope my english is enough. Attached there are 2 shot with a M8 taken with ISO 1250 (the first one and a cutout) and the second one with ISO 2500 and a cutout. There is one stripe in each image, exactly on the same position. This lett me think that this is not the banding problem because bandig dependent on hight-light light sources. I was using a Summicron 35mm. The M8 is one from the second edition, so the banding problem should be fixed. Who can interpret these stripes? Thanx Mario Welcome, dear visitor! usm Posted February 22, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 22, 2007 Update after some testing! The stripes are only visible between ISO 360 to 2500 but only when using exposure time under 1/45. It doesn't matter whitch SD-card i'm using. Guess I'm going to contact my dealer! Best Mario
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 22, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2007 Are these Jpegs or Raws. Can you try a different converter. This is NOT the normal banding issue, it's to thin a line and also the banding was seen above 1/30 of a second and not below.
jaapv Posted February 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2007 I agree, this is a one-off we have not seen before, not the SD card it seems so it must be a sensor problem, just return the thing and demand another I would say.

Guest Jeffryabt Posted February 22, 2007 Share #11 Posted February 22, 2007 Are these Jpegs or Raws. Can you try a different converter. This is NOT the normal banding issue, it's to thin a line and also the banding was seen above 1/30 of a second and not below. In my case the line shows up in both raw and jpg. Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 22, 2007 Share #12 Posted February 22, 2007 Cards and Card readers can be the issue also but it is happening in the high ISO which bothers me. Maybe some more details on cards and card readers, all the time some of the tim tis happens stuff like that. This maybe a bad sensor. It's always in the same place is that correct
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 22, 2007 Share #13 Posted February 22, 2007 Looking at your other post , looks like a dead row of pixels on the sensor and shows up in the shadow side .It probably is there on the one above but it is light and is covering it up. Send it back, it is either the sensor is bad or the processing channel is off either way needs to go to Solms
Guest Jeffryabt Posted February 22, 2007 Share #14 Posted February 22, 2007 Again, in my case one can actually see the line in image when viewing the image in camera.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 22, 2007 Share #15 Posted February 22, 2007 Sounds bad, sorry to hear this. Return it to your dealer for a exchange if you can

POKO Posted February 22, 2007 Share #17 Posted February 22, 2007 Hi, There is no mystery here - it's quite simply sloppy quality control. There is no excuse for this kind of repeated problem. I am waiting for my third camera - hope it works, because this is pathetic. Speaking of my third camera, I was told on Tuesday that it had been shipped from Leica USA. I kept calling to get a tracking number, no call back - now I know why. The camera was never sent. Just got the tracking number today, will be sent out today and in theory it should be here tomorrow. For the record, when I sent the camera back to them a week ago Monday, I was told they had a camera waiting for me and that it would be sent out as soon as they recieved mine. That clearly didn't happen! Well, guess who isn't impressed. It's a good thing I'm not depending on this camera (or this level of quality control/customer service for my commercial work) because I wouldn't have any - my clients wouldn't put of with this b------t. Sad and pathetic... Per
Guest Jeffryabt Posted February 22, 2007 Share #18 Posted February 22, 2007 I suppose I should be upset as well, but actually I'm not. Leica is just having growing pains as they go digital. I can clearly remember the trouble Nikon had with their old D1. It was ugly! But now as I think about it ...if I was still waiting for a usable M8 after returning two, I'm sure my patience would have worn very thin.
vensar Posted February 22, 2007 Share #19 Posted February 22, 2007 Hello All: I have learned a tremendous amount from all of you in this forum. Thank you. This is my first post. I have an updated M8 with firmware 1.09. I too have experienced this stripe which runs right across the image - a blue vertical line in some pics (in landscape) and a red horizontal line in other pics (in portrait). I noticed these lines appear when I stop down (f8 and below) and use slow shutter speeds. I am quite concerned considering it is only a week since the M8 returned after the "fix." Is this a cause for return or just repair? I am not sure how to display an image here. I have an attachment which I hope will come through. ho_co Posted February 23, 2007 Share #20 Posted February 23, 2007 Perhaps already mentioned--this looks to me very similar to the problem in http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/17111-whats-dreaded-horizontal-band.html. Maybe same or similar issue?
