Riley Posted February 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) student designer Elizabeth Clark has submitted her design for the Leica E concept camera Hello! In an interview with KEH.com when asked the question "what made you decide to design a Leica?" Elizabeth says : In a design class we were assigned the task of designing a camera. I chose to brand mine under the Leica name because of their simple, efficient, and beautifully crafted cameras. I also found that the SLRs on the market all have similar forms. Leica however, stands out from this crowd. They have taken simple shapes and quality materials to construct beautifully crafted cameras. There is also an air of staying true to the older style cameras, which is the direction I pursued with my rendition of the SLR. you can read the follow up here KEH Camera Blog: Interview- Elizabeth Clark i just know you guys will love it

stunsworth Posted February 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 6, 2011 That must be the ugliest camera I've ever seen. Not sure why it has a Pentax lens on it.
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 6, 2011 Because she couldn't afford a Leica one?
nigelb Posted February 6, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 6, 2011 Well she is a poor student type so a Noctilux is probably past her design budget. Not sure about the hand-carved wooden lens mount! The wood and leather makes it look like a Jaguar dashboard. You have to credit her for trying though and at least she recognises some of Leica's philosophies though I'm not sure that shines through in the final design. I'll wait for the E2

Nicoleica Posted February 6, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 6, 2011 Does anyone remember the film 'Silent Running'? I think that this camera must be related to Huey, Dewey and Louie from that film.
mjh Posted February 6, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone remember the film 'Silent Running'? As it happens I do, but I was rather reminded of “Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari”. If Dr. Caligari had a camera, this one would make an excellent choice. krabat Posted February 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 6, 2011 Very good, Dr. Caligari!!! I wonder how the ergonomics is... Is it REALLY possible to take pictures with such a screwed piece?

earleygallery Posted February 6, 2011 Share #12 Posted February 6, 2011 I really don't know what to say! I'm just thinking of the many late nights and wasted leather that Louis would suffer if this were a real camera!

Ecaton Posted February 7, 2011 Share #15 Posted February 7, 2011 Hey, she is still a student! So there lies hope;) And as a second thought, it might be a damn smart design - 100% theft and robbery proved.
marknorton Posted February 7, 2011 Share #16 Posted February 7, 2011 I notice she's revived the M5 design of having both strap lugs on one end. When can we expect the 3 lug version?
Speenth Posted February 7, 2011 Share #17 Posted February 7, 2011 There's a few of you being a bit tough on this. Personally, I think it's great and I congratulate Elizabeth for not allowing convention to cloud her imagination. Who cares if it's functional (nor even if it's handsome). It is a design exercise and as such, she's probably put heart and soul into it. So good luck to her and I look forward to her first offering when she's made chief designer at Solms (but please, Elizabeth, can you just tone it down a bit ... after all, this is a Leica and it has to be a little bit conservative and, er um, traditional ... know what I mean).
