Any experience with Metz 76 MZ-5 digital

Thorsten,

I have been researching a larger flash to use with both D2 and V-Lux1, I have the SF24D which came with the D2 (and which works in TTL mode with the V-Lux too), from what I have discovered today many of the "branded" flashes such as Nikon, Olympus, etc are actually made by Panasonic. Panasonic branded units seem to be very expensive, whereas the same unit with Olympus printed on the front is much cheaper.

Check out the Olympus FL-36 and FL-50, both of these powerful units will work TTL with the D2 (and V-lux/FZ-30,50 clones). I believe that if you get the Metz you will have to buy an adapter to get the TTL control.

PLEASE guys, correct me if any of this is wrong, I'm no flash expert, all the above has been picked up from the 'net today.

Cheers,

Pete.

I have the Metz MZ54 and it needs the 3502 adaptor.

It works very well with tilt and swivel head and front fill in flash. It is not small though.

With R9 synch is at all speeds. with M7 & M6 it is only at 1/50th

Anyone who have that Metz or the 45 MZ digital?

I'm looking for a flash I can use with both D2 and film cameras. It has to be fast, lots of battery and has to have nice flash light. And easy to carry and use.

Any experiences or thoughts?

Absoluty no flash with such a small reflector has a NICE flash light. :(

For shooting on location I use the Profoto Acute 1200R and (when it will arrive) the new Acute B600R.

thats weird because the V-Lux is an Olympus hotshoe, and the SF24D is Leica hotshoe

FL-36 and FL-50 are no good to Thorsten whatever, the Oly flashes wont work in TTL mode with the D2.

being that D2 and V-Lux 1 are different hotshoes ....thats a problem

you could pick up a Metz flash, and 2 dedicated bases

I have a Metz 54 Mz3 for LC-1 and am waiting on the arrival of the adapter

I have been using an Olympus FL-36 in manual mode

Metz compatible flash from their site includes

Metz 54MZ-3 : AUTO, 44MZ-2 : AUTO, 70MZ-5 : AUTO, and use the 'dedicated for Leica module' the SCA 3502 adapter

find below images of the D2 hotshoe and L1, which is same as V-Lux-1 hotshoe

Riley is absolutely correct with all of the above! I find that the SF24D is only working in "A" mode rather than TTL as I thought.:(

Looks like to use anyone else's flash unit with the D2, you'll need the adapter.

I've got hold of the Olympus FL-50 to use on the V-Lux, I'll make do with the SF 24 on my D2.

btw, this FL-50 gives a seriously BIG flash when it goes off- instant sun-tan!

Thanks for the correction. :)

Cheers,

Pete.
