iPad Specific Camera Bags

Does anyone have any experience with camera/iPad bags? I've been trying to find some but all the ones I found were a bit big for my liking. The Think Thank Retro 5 would have been a perfect size, but the front flap doesn't close completely with an iPad 2 stuffed.

My ideal camera bag would fit an M2, M6, enough film for a day's shooting (4-8 rolls?), and an iPad 2.

Any ideas folks? Do we even have a camera thread? Haven't found one in the search.

Yes, and it's still the same issue. The 5 Million is the perfect size, but it's not wide enough for an iPad. The 6 million fits the iPad, but is a bit big. I'm surprised there isn't one that was centered around an iPad. Thing is, I can go for a bigger bag, but I would prefer something smaller. I don't see a reason for me to carry a 6 compartment bag when I just need three.

I use a naneu pro military ops sierra. Has a padded compartment perfect for an i-pad or a

small laptop and a main compartment which nicely holds two bodies and three or four lenses.

Bag is well made, comfortable strap, extremely well padded and inexpensive. Doesn't look

like it would hold several thousand dollars worth of equipment. Good luck.

Did the same search. An extra requirement for me was it had to be a small backpack for cycling and it had to have a side opening, since I hate to put a backpack on the street (chewing gum...) the Crumpler Cupcake slim backpack fitted, when I rearranged the padding: iPad 2 fits and an M9 system with 5 or 6 lenses and some extra's. In a darker color it looks unassuming. Bag works very fast: release left shoulder band, slide bag under right arm, unzip sideflap and all lenses, camera and iPad are directly under hand without danger of falling out.

So I narrowed it down to three choices:

Retrospective 10: My main choice so far. It has the exact look I want without being too colourful. I can actually fit two M's and a spare SLR with a wide angle. I bet I can fit a whole bunch of other stuff and film. And I can get it locally, even though there are other bags that would end up being cheaper, including shipping.

Tenba Mini Laptop Bag: This is the most practical of the three, but not a fan of the colour and structure. Comes in various sizes, and the mini is large enough for a netbook/iPad 2. This would actually cost me less, even if I do ship it from the States.

Timbuk2 Snoop Camera Bag: The nice thing about their site is that they have an indicator that tells you whether or not your laptop will fit. Though they recommend the S and M size bags for the iPad, the dimensions of the XS look like their enough.

While my heart is still set on the Retrospective 5, I don't know if I can use it due to it's size. I might drop down to the store and check if the iPad fits or not. I just don't want to carry a bag that's bigger than what I need. The point is to travel small and light.

I'll keep you folks updated.

Here is a photo of the Oskar's One Day bag, it closes easily and normally with the ipad. (The ipad is behind the red insert).

Dothebag mono_9 would take two Ms, film and an iPad. A bit pricey, though.

Monochrom® - Für die Fotografie

The Mono 6 is smaller and an ipad fits exactly between the padded liner and leather case......plus you can get a manfrotto table tripod similarly at one or other end, plus an M9 with lens, 4 other lenses (or another body and 2 lenses) macro adapter and sundry batteries/finders etc. with judicious surgery and placement of the dividers.... plus slip pockets back and front..... and its only 11"x7"x6". Doesnt look much like a camera bag either.

They are not cheap but quality, style and flexibility make them worth a look ...... http://www.monochrom.com/%bbdothebag%ab-Mono_6.htm?websale7=mono-c&pi=35432&ci=000013

I have a heap of bags and this is the only one that has been a keeper.

oh and if you want a cheapie, the smallest of the lowepro (micro trekker 10) backpacks is also tiny (10.5x11.5x8")and with some extra spacers and thought can take an M9 with lens and 6 other lenses plus accessories or 2 M's and 3-4 lenses .... and an ipad will just fit in the main compartment on top of the gear before you zip it up. There is also room in the front for other junk. I used this a lot particularly for travel but had a few scares with forgetting to zip it up .... nearly resulting in 20k worth of gear being dumped on the pavement......

"I have the Domke F-803 and an iPad fits perfectly in the external sleeve at the back. The interior compartment can hold an M9, a couple of lenses, batteries, etc."

I agree the Domke F-803 is a great choice

Here is a photo of the Domke F-803 with my iPad (in leather case) in the rear pocket. It fits very well but can be easily retrieved. A Macbook Air 11" just fits, but is pretty snug.

Get the equivalent Safrotto instead (CF700). Better made, all metal fittings instead of plastic, and stronger canvas. Comes with a shoulder pad and a three compartment insert instead of having to pay extra for the Domke which, let's face it, is a shadow of it's former self.

Bill

I'm a bit puzzled about this.

My F803 (canvas) has all metal fittings and appears to be robustly made as does my J803 (nylon). I agree re the inserts, but than the way I carry my gear, I actually like just one insert.
