W.E.B. DuBois was born in Great Barrington, MA 150 years ago. He was a person of stupendous intellect and influence. (A small signifier of his accomplishments: he was the first African-American to earn a PhD at Harvard; but that is only shorthand for his subsequent accomplishments as an intellectual and political activist). I was hiking in Great Barrington over last weekend, and I took these photos of a wall mural celebrating his life and words.
