shahdad Posted September 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have several Leica Camera's and I would like to confirm that I have identified them correctly since each one has several variants and potential modifications. I've used https://www.cameraquest.com/ltmnum.htm to narrow each camera down but I can't figure out if what I have has any details that may make it unique or even a fake. Leica M3 from 1957? Serial number is 899559 with Ernst Leitz GmbH Wetzlar Summicron 5cm 2 Lens and Leica Meter MC Welcome, dear visitor! Sandokan Posted September 16, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2016 From the M page serial numbers there: 9/25/1957 M3 898001-903000 total made: 5000 Does not appear to be anything to tell me yours is special. As to fake - if its not built like a Leica, it probably isnt

shahdad Posted September 21, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) Great, Thank you for the replies. What is the difference between the single strokes and double stroke? I see that one is more valuable than the other. Was it a modification or were some camera's made as a double stroke? earleygallery Posted September 21, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2016 Great, Thank you for the replies. What is the difference between the single strokes and double stroke? I see that one is more valuable than the other. Was it a modification or were some camera's made as a double stroke? Double stroke cameras were the earlier M3's. They are not more valuable as such although as always other factors will matter. For use most will prefer a single stroke model.
willeica Posted September 21, 2016 Share #7 Posted September 21, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some very early M3s, which are double strokes, fetch high prices but in most cases the single/double stroke issue does not affect value. This is not a very early example. From a user perspective both types have their enthusiasts and opinions differ on this issue. In terms of value for all of the cameras on which you have sought advice, you should look at the Collectiblend site, which I recommended before. There are, however, no hard and fast rules about value which for all vintage/classic items is what the market is prepared to pay. @McLeica Posted September 22, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 22, 2016 So mine is actually double stroke... hopefully that adds some extra value... Probably not... +1m serial number therefore single stroke in excellent condition appear to be the benchmark. Very early serials and late do the best.
