for many useful tips and information before my purchase of the M8. I am still researching if I should get some Leica lenses, but for now I am using CV 40/1.4, and 12/5.6. Like to share a couple photos shot using the CV 40mm. Input, feedback and tips are truly appreciated.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your input.

Yes, I understand that it's a little oof, actually both are (they were quick tests while shopping in a store with my daughter and wife). The main concern I have on the first photo is that I question if the bokeh is a little too interrupting, it's a good thing it's composed on the side though, to balance out the layout. I always hear that Leica lenses make softer (less harsh) bokeh, would you think this is the case where a L lens will perform better and keep the bokeh more "quiet"? I am starting to do my research on which lenses to get, and the quality of bokeh will be one of the considering factors.

Many thanks for the kind comments,

Andy

hi andy,

i am quite a new user... currently i am comparing the feeling of Voigtlander lenses and Leica. I own a Voigtlander 35mm f1,2. my experience is similar to yours: bokeh seems a bit more harsh compared to Leica lenses. here is a shot, which i took in a shop trying the Noctilux 50mm f1,0

my feeling is, that the Leica lens draws much smoother bokeh than the Voigtlander. i'd love to get the Noctilux, but i guess i have to save some money first. there is a review of a Voigtlander compared to a Leica lens at steve huffs blog. he compares bokeh of both:

here is my test-shot with the Noctilux - very quick shot, but shows smooth and charming bokeh:

Hi Falkk,

Thanks for posting the test photo, it looks smooth, and thanks for the link on the CV 1.1 review, I actually have one in my hands for testing (borrowed from my brother), it's a well-built lens, bokeh is smoother than my CV 40/1.4. The price is very attractive for what it does. The only thing is that the focusing ring is a little tight for my taste, and weight is a little heavy on the M8 body.

I'd love to look into the 50/1/4 ASPH, if it ever becomes available. But $3500 is a lot to spend... so I'm like you, saving money right now :)

ahh, hi andy,

i decided to get the noctilux. i thought, if i go for the voigtlander, which is much cheaper, i will regret that in the end... so i got the used noctilux for a very decent price... now, i am just happy with that decision.

Well, whatever lens I have now doesn't mean anything anymore... After 14 days of ownership, "shutter fault" appeared on the LCD, "ERR" appeared on the viewfinder. I read a lot about this before my purchase and pulled the trigger anyway, now it really happened. I bought the camera new so it's under warranty, but the idea of not having the opportunity to use something I just bought 14 days ago is not a very pleasant experience... yeah I have tried all the methods to try to bring it back to life but it's stubborn.

Have fun with your newly bought lens, that is one magical glass I am sure.

Andy
