Advertisement Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Hi Leica Blog, Take a look here photokina – Leica Design Preview. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JHAG Posted September 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2010 Wow ! Sounds exciting. Sure looks like a camera body, intriguing mix of Digilux 3 and M. It sure won't be a lens only occasion. Looks like we'll have a late late dinner next Tuesday.

mooky Posted September 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2010 In a image of the cover letter in the invitation packet there is the Leica symbol in the upper left and in the upper right corner it reads 'Volkswagen Group'....... But the text is in German - anyone read German? The image is on the L Camera Blog - it also shows signatures of Alfred Schopf from Leica and Walter de Silva from VW. So, what does it say? JHAG Posted September 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2010 I could read "neuen limitierten Sonderserie" : "a new limited exceptional range". It says also "Zeichen besonderes Produkts" : meaning Leica will "show several very special or particular products". Then there is that catch phrase by Silva, already translated : "Design is also what you don't see". Reminds me Antoine de Saint-Exupéry : "On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux". "Man sieht nur mit dem Herzen gut. Das Wesentliche ist für die Augen unsichtbar." "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye." The Little Prince By the way, the great Saint-Ex, as we name him in France, has been shot down in 1944 in front of Marseille, when flying his American Lightning, aged 44 (one of the oldest and most courageous fighter pilots of WWII, a legend on par with a Douglas Bader), by a german fighter pilot who later learned he shot a writer he read and admired. What a destiny ! And Saint-Ex was himself great friend with John Phillips (Life) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Phillips_%28photographer%29John Phillips has been described as the "grand-godfather of photo-journalism, a master of lenses and multiple languages; elegant, exuberant and chrome-steel effectual, who has recorded in his own peripatetic way some of the freshest footprints of history." National Portrait Gallery website Phillips later published outstanding pictures and portraits of Saint-Ex in North Africa (a book with Gallimard in Paris). Au revoir Saint-Ex: Amazon.fr: John Philipps, Antoine de Saint-Exup I guess Phillips was shooting a Leica. Welcome, dear visitor! mendoza12 Posted September 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 19, 2010 i also was excited. at least for a few minutes. then i bothered and read the text on the invitation. so leica talks about a "new limited edition" (neue limitierte sonderserie). and this is basically what leica does with all its product lines. i am not going to make any prediction about a new leica camera line. and i don't know about the VW logo on the invitation (guess there must be a reason for but i would be really surprised to see an EVIL or any other new system between X1 and M. mooky Posted September 19, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 19, 2010 NO Leica EVIL camera or “R” solutuion at Photokina! | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS Been mentioned elsewhere - Leica better be wearing thick skin if they have nothing other than ideas to share about an R lens solution. All the ideas/rumors - including mine - are just that. We'll know later tomorrow. Any limited edition M9 that has any new feature while they have outstanding M9 orders would be idiotic at best. sdai Posted September 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 20, 2010 Does anyone know what Volkswagen's involvement is in this, or have I missed something momentous? Perhaps it's a rear view "Leica" camera for the new Volkswagen models ... Paris Auto Show is from Oct.2 to 17. Buy hey, Porsche is now in the Volkswagen family so it may be a VW/Porsche designed Leica camera too ... no teasing please, Andreas, we're all grown-ups. thegrantgreen Posted September 20, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 20, 2010 it's really discusting. leica has nothing new. and fuji. they did it. i'm really thinking about buying the fuji x100 instead of investing in any other leica products. i thought leica would get better. but they don't. andybarton Posted September 20, 2010 Share #12 Posted September 20, 2010 Leia's presentation isn't finished yet. They have also completely changed the way frame lines are used in the viewfinder. Give them a chance...
thegrantgreen Posted September 20, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 20, 2010 look at this camera !! it looks ridiculous .. what are they thinking? fuji also invented a new frameline system . a new viewfinder system and they don't have rangefinder experience for decades. a really good one, which leica should have invented instead of making a silly looking x1 and a new titanium m9 which looks even more silly then the m5. today they really disappointed me. J Mitchum Posted September 20, 2010 Share #15 Posted September 20, 2010 All they have to show for Photokina is an awful looking limited edition M9 and carbon copies of two Panasonic models? Ugh. Illuminated frame lines? Look what Fuji has done fully combining both an OVF and EVF. NO R LENS SOLUTION... AGAIN. I think I'm done with Leica. I have tremendous respect for Fuji now.
