Rodrigue, competitive ploughing has a long history in Britain (and elsewhere in the world). Local ploughing matches go on through the year and the champions compete at this national event in the autumn. There are competitions for every type of plough and tractor from the huge multi-bladed modern ploughs to the historic horse-drawn rig. The heavy horses are wonderful photographic subjects, especially those, like Sam and Poppet, that have been decked out with their brasses and decorative harness.
