Advertisement Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Hi trylab, Take a look here Leica on the Rocks. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Lightwrangler Posted April 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 1, 2011 Looks like this is the least problem this camera has. Did you open bottles with the eyelet? Mike
Guest badbob Posted April 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 1, 2011 That's interesting - those two little posts appear to be threaded. It would take some force to break that. BTW, there is another place to attach a strap on the other side of the camera.
patrick parker Posted April 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 1, 2011 I had the same problem. It's the new firmware.
Firesuite Posted April 1, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 1, 2011 I wonder if Leica will cover any of this ??
jaapv Posted April 1, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 1, 2011 Seeing that this is clearly impact damage, I think the one to cover this should be the insurance.
earleygallery Posted April 1, 2011 Share #7 Posted April 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry? If the strap lugs have failed then I would expect this to be a warranty issue! Not encouraging, shutter buttons and strap lugs snapping off!
nigelb Posted April 1, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 1, 2011 Poor thing! My 31 year old OM1n is in infinitely better condition than that. Still if you like the distressed look......
Firesuite Posted April 1, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 1, 2011 Sorry? If the strap lugs have failed then I would expect this to be a warranty issue! My thought as well, will be interesting to see what they say.
Danielsan Posted April 1, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 1, 2011 My thought as well, will be interesting to see what they say. They will investigate it i think, insurances check those accidents and if they give the OK then you will get the money i think
earleygallery Posted April 1, 2011 Share #11 Posted April 1, 2011 They will investigate it i think, insurances check those accidents and if they give the OK then you will get the money i think My take on this is that the strap lug broke off, hence the damage to the camera, not that the owner dropped the camera which caused the lug to snap off. Perhaps the OP could clarify? If I'm right, then this is a design fault or manufacturing defect. If the brakes failed on your new car, would you take the blame for not being able to stop? Danielsan Posted April 2, 2011 Share #12 Posted April 2, 2011 If I'm right, then this is a design fault or manufacturing defect. Yes i know but insurances sometimes do tests and simulate crashes and all that before they pay the money cause insurances never believe the ppl
reginaldwatkins Posted April 2, 2011 Share #13 Posted April 2, 2011 Something happened to the camera, look at the flash, it's only half way up. The skin is pealing too.
jaapv Posted April 2, 2011 Share #14 Posted April 2, 2011 Sorry? If the strap lugs have failed then I would expect this to be a warranty issue! Not encouraging, shutter buttons and strap lugs snapping off! Look at the dents and scratches - this camera has been in the wars.
h00ligan Posted April 2, 2011 Share #15 Posted April 2, 2011 Ok let's clarify... The question is.... Is the camera all abused looking due to a fall caused by lug failure...or is the owner abusive and that caused the lug to fail. That's all that's being argued! Given the op didn't say, I don't know if anyone has the answerbut them, but good luck convincing leica (not sarcasm, I actually mean good luck)
brill64 Posted April 2, 2011 Share #16 Posted April 2, 2011 BTW, there is another place to attach a strap on the other side of the camera. ..look carefully just above said other lug
trylab Posted April 2, 2011 Author Share #17 Posted April 2, 2011 Is it me or is it Leica? as I mention before... it worked itself out. As a consequence of this, the camera fell and hit rocks and from there into the sea. The threads of the screws holding the eyelet are undamaged, so no force has been applied. Welcome, dear visitor! Lightwrangler Posted April 2, 2011 Share #18 Posted April 2, 2011 That's scary and very annoying. My tip would be a manufacturing issue. Otherwise I just cannot imagine two (!) property tightened screws to just loosen themselves like that inside (!) the camera body. I just checked my lugs and they seem both to sit very tight and without movement. I would imagine them to move for- and backwarrds if the screws get loose before the lug falls off completely. In your place i would talk to Leica immediately. The threads seem undamaged, the screws unbroken and not twisted. As long as the body is unopened for me that goes as a proof the lug did not get off because of the fall, but contrary. Mike
Dan States Posted April 2, 2011 Share #19 Posted April 2, 2011 Does the camera work at all?
Danielsan Posted April 2, 2011 Share #20 Posted April 2, 2011 Is it cause the threads from that silver piece in the picture worn off? the screws looking ok.
