I hope this is the right forum. I have the new M on order. I'm thinking of getting the 60mm f2.8 Marco Elmarit-R to use with the R to M adapter. However there seems to be various versions of this lens from 1 cam to 3 cam to ROM plus the different types of macro-adapter for 1:1 work! Could anyone tell which combination of which version of the lens and which adapter will work best on the new M or will we have to discover that only when the new M arrives?

The lens is a fine performer and should perform very well on the new M when released. As mentioned, get the lens with the E55 thread size. You would pay more for the ROM version and I would except that the 3 Cam version would be the one to get. You do not plan to use the lens on an R8 or R9 I presume.

Also, I would suggest getting the Macro Adapter R for your 1:1 adapter instead of the one that was made for the lens. It will and should offer the ability to be used with R lenses.

Any version of the 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R will do fine. I prefer the older version for its 60mm filter size, the same filter size used on the 100mm APO so I carry only one polarizing filter instead of two.

For an extension tube the three-ring set will do as well as the Macro-Adapter-R or the 14198 dedicated extension tube because the M doesn't take advantage of the auto-diaphragm feature of the lens. The constricted throat of the 14198 or Macro-Adapter-R will cause vignetting with long-focus lenses such as the f/6.8 Telyts.

If long-focus lenses and sharing E60 filters isn't a concern then the E55 version of the lens and the Macro-Adapter-R are excellent choices.

If you are set on the 60 Macro very well, but keep in mind the 100 Macro is considered even better.

If you plan on mainly macro with the 60 on the new M, take a look at the 100, although its price is more, but it is APO and has been used a reference lens by some experts. Just a suggestion.

I used the new M to R adapter at Photokina and it made use of the R lenses on the M a joy to use.

At the time being I use the R Macro Elmarit 60 mm without ROM on the 5 D III and if required together with the 1:1 adapter and in some cases with an additional Leica APO Extender 2x. This combination is used for table top mainly and with a tripod. The results are excellent. I am confident, that it will work on a Leica M excellent too - using the Live View and magnification (like I do with my 5 D III). Will be interesting if the Live View Focus Peaking will help too.
