Probably this topic has been already covered in other threads, but I wasn't able to find a definitive answer yet.

Is it possible to use an ELMAR-M 50 mm f/2.8 collapsible, last generation lens, on the M9 ?

Anyone did it ?

I didn't received my M9 yet, but I did use the ELMAR-M 50 mm f/2.8 on my M8 without problems with tube extended or retracted.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure Brett had one on his M9 when I saw it at the post-launch demo.

Almost all collapsible lenses are OK onto M9... with the blessing of M9 Product Manager (Stefan Daniel - interviewd here under )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are all the old lenses compatible?

DANIEL: They are all compatible except the dual range Summicron, except the Hologon 15mm, and you can use the 90 f/4 collapsible out of the 1960s but you must never collapse it.

Other collapsibles can go in?

DANIEL: Yes they can.

Unlike the M8…

DANIEL: Yes. The reason is that the space of full frame is much larger behind the bayonet than it was on the M8.

M9s are starting to spread in Milano, Torino... not yet in Brescia... :o

I have tried it and in my case it works. I believe it is also mentioned in the manual that it should work. no guarantee I am correct though.

I think with full frame the 50/2.8 is a very interesting lens again.

I plan to carry this here and then as a small beautiful one lens-combo.

First comparison with the 50asph indicates the 50/2.8 isnt bad-not as contrasty as the asph lens but still not dull at all. very nice drawing IMO.

Cheers, Tom
