aaron,

Possibly the camera is in sleep mode.

You must first wake-up the camera and then shoot.

If you try to shoot while sleeping, it will not work.

Hi Aaron,

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago - pressed the shutter release and nothing happened. What had happened was that I had somehow knocked the on/off, single, continuous mode selector to a position between single mode and continuous mode. What I must add here is that the switch had moved just, just off the single mode (a millimeter or so). I had not noticed this and when I pressed the shutter release - nothing.

sorry to tell everyone that:

1) my camera is not and never was set to sleep mode, so that is not the answer. believe me i wish it was.

2) i don't think the switch was between the c&s modes. especially since in some cases it fires a moment later like a lag.

so, any other people out there who have had a similar problem?

Are you working manually or using AE? I find in AE that in some circumstances where the camera is going quickly from pointing down towards the ground or out to some not very high contrast background to some higher contrast subject which requires a new and more difficult AE reading that I press the shutter release and the camera reacts frustratingly slowly. But in manual exposure I don't experience similar shutter lag.

i rarely ever use the camera in A mode. so this happened in regular manual mode.

as for the battery not lasting long, i find that the battery has plenty of power for my needs. i have 3 batteries and if i need to, i charge the 1st one when it runs out and it is ready to be used again by the time the 3rd one is dead.

as for low power, this problem happens with fresh batteries as well as ones with 2 bars left.

also, regarding the red light, this happens when the light is not blinking on the rear.

ouch, sounds like you might have something that needs to be checked by Leica...

I have noticed this behaviour of the camera. Press the shutter and there seems to be a delay. It has happened occasionally and I have just ignored it. Does not seem to be getting worse. I shoot in A-mode and get the impression that it is related to the camera pausing whilst re-adjusting the metering. It may not be exactly what you are experiencing,

Damaso,

Perhaps you are right. I never did like computers (although I built my first one from parts). In any case, I do love the M8 even with all it's bugs. If it were not for the bugs, I would have sold my Canon gear.

The Leica M8 simply provides a sharper, and better looking file than my Canon.

Just to be clear on this, are you saying you have gone into the menu and turned the "Auto Power Off" selection to "Off?" I believe the camera comes with the default setting at "5 minutes," so you don't have to set anything for the camera to go into sleep mode. You do, however, have to change the setting to prevent it from doing so.

This M8 Camera will be sent into Leica shortly. If I find out what caused the problem I will post to let people know.

I have had an M8 for about 1 year now, and this is a new issue for the camera. So, I am sure there is a malfunction.

Thanks for everyone's replies.
