A little grain to grind/A little bit of Leica Camera Historica

Recommended Posts

JC, I agree (and what a beautiful II that is).

I have learned more in this sub-forum than I have in most of the others. Although I am not myself particularly knowledegable - certainly not compared to the likes of yourself and certain others (you know who you are) :D I find this a thoroughly enjoyable and convivial place.

C'mon guys - let's get a bit more active! One suggestion - a small one - is new uses for old accessories. I am particularly thinking of my recently acquired D-Lux 4 that is wearing my even more recenty acquired SBOOI - just 'cos it's old doesn't mean it's out of date

The other suggestion is TAKE PART IN THE NEXT BARNACK CHALLENGE! We don't own our Barnacks - we look after them for the next generation - give them some exercise - they will appreciate it!

Regards,

Bill

As I am feeling that this forum is a little bit asleep :) I post this pict to share. The German forum alone is more active than us.

Great to see Your Hektor. In the german forum we just found out from DDM's marvellous collection that it was the most expensive Leitz lense in the thirties. Pity, chances to see photos taken by it are so rare. This is also true for it's little brother, the 5-cm Hektor.

Truly stunning, how envious I am JC.

Correct about the prices, London catalogue price for your Hektor in summer 1935 was £29 and 5shillings! Compared to snapshot Elmar at £4 10shillings! And what I would give for one of those!

Alan (new but really enjoying the forum)

To J.C.:

Here is a twin to yours! Check the lens serial number - probably produced within days of each other! A wonderful portrait lens on the M8 - particularly for the 'wrinkled' generation......

Best,

Jan

... And another 7,3 Hektor from me ! Older (but they exist also with FIVE digits... ;)), conditions not so good after 77 years... but its soft leather pouch (ETTOX) still closes perfectly.
