The M3 that fell from the sky...

I've been laboring for weeks (no, months) about which M-body to get, the M3 or the M4 (no electronics).

Now this morning I get an email from my Corvette, photography, duck hunting, wine drinking and Leica loving buddy Senior Chief Jake, He had his Leica kit stolen several years ago. Never replaced it but went to Nikon digital. He must know dozens of ex and working Phojos all over the world from his years in the Navy as a phojo and Public Affairs and later as an editor in Europe.

Well a bud of his who was with the L.A. Times had finally decided to sell his last Leica (and first Leica) an M3 since he's all digital (Canon) these days. It just got back from a CLA and is a solid working piece of gear. Jake didn't want it but told him to contact me so the deal was done.

So, I'm now waiting for my M3 with a history as soon as the current owner get's back from Belize. I still think I'll add an M4 just because....

I can say this is one of the first issue model made in 1955, double stroke, with no frame selector, long rewind arm, low washer under the coking arm, cocked eye film advancement indicator, long ears strap eyes, first issue, old scale speeds selector, quite clear glass on the frame illumator window ( not anti flare), glass pressure film, etc... and in very good shape, take care about this jewell and enjoy making picture with it.

The Summicron is a special issue for Japan in LTM mount, here with a M adapter.

Congratulations

they are all sisters in a way ... another 55-lady (DS, glass, L-seal, Dachshund-ears, old german speeds, no Leicameter-scratches etc.)

Give them a CLA in Solms and let them do their job! You´ll never regret!

Hi JC , I must say jou know your Leica stuff , I did not think anyone would pick the lens. This lens was bought for my IIIG , also still in use from time to time.

Ronald some good advise here but the one you see is in perfect working order with crisp and accurate range finder too. Happy there are a few more still in service so I thank you for the photo.

Cheers Manfred
