Advertisement Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Hi thomweinstein, Take a look here REAL or FAKE Leica II???????. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
eyedeebee Posted December 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2007 The numbers would date the camera as a Leica II from 1939, and the lens from 1938, so these look about right. - What is it about the camera that make you think it may not be authentic? - I'm not sure the shutter release collar looks original, but I may well be wrong. steed Posted December 11, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2007 The focusing cam is round, and indicator of authenticity. I recall that the Russian fakes, which are often based upon Feds, have a cam that is not round. My two cents worth. John W
luigi bertolotti Posted December 11, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2007 Ok, there is that strange collar to the shutter release... but the original is screwed-on... lot of explanations for this oddity... - Finishing of advance knob & times knob : good to have it well detailed on pic...looks original - "20-1" on the times knob (surely 13,5 mm diam.) : ok for a '39 model (batch of 300 : 318501 to -800) - Screws that fit top to body (3+3) : position OK. - "o" on the flange... a little strange.. it should have disppeared in later batches... but not a definite conclusion to be drawn... was a component built in thousands previously... war approaching... better to use also spares in inventory... or it could even had been changed easily for wear or so... - "D.R.P." engraving under "Leica", not under "Wetzlar"... correct for a '39 model. .... Shutter sounds fine ? OK, not a russian fake...
earleygallery Posted December 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted December 12, 2007 Looks a genuine Leica to me. I've seen that shutter release collar before, some after market accessory.
