bill Posted June 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mr Earley kindly passed on to me one of his 5cm Elmars the other day. I promised to give it a good home and to use it to the best of my ability. These are some of the first fruits... waileong Posted June 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2007 Is this sepia tone natural, or did you do Photoshop it before posting?
wizard Posted June 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 21, 2007 Bill, it certainly looks as if this lens HAS found a good new home. And as before when James posted photographs he had taken with this lens, I am impressed by the quality. I take it is James' first Elmar you have aquired? Enjoy the new addition to your stable! jc_braconi Posted June 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 21, 2007 Hello Bill, is it the 2.8 or the 3.5 ? and if 3.5 is it the red dial ? Congratulations for the pictures ! Regards JC
earleygallery Posted June 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 21, 2007 Bill, Glad you're enjoying the lens, I've been waiting to see some results. Can I have it back now? This is the earlier black scale 3.5 Elmar. Wonderful lens as the results show.
rob_x2004 Posted June 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 21, 2007 Crumble...teh 400cn works good on the stainless and chrome doesnt it. It could become an expensive passion.
bill Posted June 21, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks all. @ Lee, no, the toning is done in Photoshop. I have a very straightforward workflow. I tweak levels and contrast, then convert to b/w before tritoning. Finally I boost brightness slightly to compensate for the toning. Occasionally I crop, but otherwise I leave as is. @ Rob, yes, I love the rendition of chrome and metallic reflective surfaces that 400CN gives. I think the toning helps too, to bring it out. It has a pleasant (as opposed to Canon digital) "plasticity" that suits the subject. Regards, Bill
noddy Posted June 21, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 21, 2007 I have to say Bill, like other posters, I over the tone. What settings do you use on the tritone? Andy
jc_braconi Posted June 21, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 21, 2007 Hi James, The lens that makes you finishing second in the Paris challenge ? Hummmm! Regards JC
bill Posted June 21, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted June 21, 2007 @ James - How can I say this... No! @ Andy - the settings I use are: Ink 1: Black Ink 2: PANTONE 114C Ink 3: PANTONE 140C It's taken me ages to settle on these, and they just "work" for me, particularly with this type of subject matter.
