Both models of the Leica I Model B with Compur shutter, the so-called "dial-set shutter" and "rim-set shutter", are "obligatory" items in a Leica collection. We had five passing through our Fontenelle collection : two dial-set nº 6110 and 6130, and three rim-set nº 21617, 34676 and 50572. This last is a very late one, produced in 1931.

The production of the ring-set model started in 1926 and, by 1929, totalled 638. The first rim-set dates from 1928 and the last one from 1931, for a total 1,072 produced (following Laney).

We start with illustrations of our "dial-set" nº 6110.

My 1(B) Compur dial-set No.5859 with Elmar 1:3.5 F=50mm, D.R.P. No 258646 D.R.G.M. is a close-focus. Distance scale is in Feet, with the closest 1.5 at 7:30 position. Release button not dimpled; feathered arrow on rewind; round accessory shoe. According to Dennis Laney (2nd edition, page 65) only two close-focus dial-sets known. Maybe this is a 3rd?

My 1(B) Compur rim-set No.50522 with Elmar 1:3.5 F=50mm, # 2254564 is standard focus. Distance scale is in mtr, with the closest "1" at 1:00 position. Release button dimpled; simple arrow on rewind; round accessory shoe.
