I really like those big guns - the original idea was to mount them on two tripods. I feel the best way to stabilize them is to use a beanbag Quite suitable for wildlife and birds if handled that way.

The Manfrotto 393 might do the job ... and can be adjusted to support at the centre of gravity. I use one with the 560mm Telyt. in conjunction with a Manfrotto 359 telescopic camera support which attaches to the tripod
