Doppelfernauslöser Visoflex I – M8

Problem: The dual cable release of the Visoflex I doesn't fit on my m8.2

question: Is there any adaptor out there? It would be a hollow screw with its head bearing an external thread for the cable release.

The exact type of the two threads would be helpful if an adaptor isn't available.

Thanks for any hints,

Sven

Sven,

Leitz used to make an adapter, which screwed into a standard cable release socket (M2, M3, M4 etc.). The upper part of the adapter was threaded to accept the domed release needed for screwmount Leicas. Thus - you could use an older type cable release with your new Leica. Unfortunately, I do not remember the code word or number; I am sure that Luigi or J.C. will pipe in with the correct info.

The adapter used to come in chrome, was about 15mm tall and often used as a 'soft release' as well.

Best,

Jan

Found it! Code word was OTZNO or 14088 and below is a 'quick and dirty' picture from the James Lager book.

Both OTZNO and, in particular OZXVO-M, are rare. Why not just use the double release made for M Leicas rather than the one made for S Leicas? It is much easier to find. Codes are: OZWTO-M, OZTOM, or 16491.

That cable release may be just as difficult to obtain as the the other items.....;)

Incidentally - apologies for the incorrect code; it should be OZTNO (not OTZNO). Slip of a finger....

The OTZNO isn't the thing I am looking for. It would certainly do the work.

I have a double cable release with "old" threads. So I need an adapter with a small screw for my m8 with outside thread on top. This should be attached on the m8. The release must go through the screw (as a pipe) to push the release. If the double release cannot compensate the additional way of app. 8mm the transmission can be done with a smal bolt.

Does anybody has the thread sizes. Maybe I can find somebody to do it.

Thank you all,

Sven

May be you can unscrew one bell (glocke) of your double cable release.

Technically speaking the problem is that you need a fixed connection from the "hose" to the camera body. If you draw the wire the hose must keep in place so that the wire is forced to slide towards the pushbutton.

If you take off a cloche you are in the need of the small hollow screw.

Sven,

The OZTNO (14088) is what you need..... Your LTM-style double cable release should have two bell-shaped attachments. One fits on the Visoflex I, the other fits on a thread mount Leica.

Obviously, it will not fit on any M camera - for that you need the OZTNO adapter. It will accept your existing double cable release and together, they will attach to your M8. The pictures from the Lager book show the OZTNO with the camera shutter release screw facing up. The bottom, which sits on the paper, has the thread needed for your 'Doppelfernauslöser'.

Best,

Jan

Leica M to Viso 1 cable releases are easy to find and cheap. There are two of these double cable releases on e-bay right now. The cheapest is $28.88. There are lots of wrong cable releases too, so make sure you pick the right one. OTZNO is rare, will take a long time to find, and will cost 2x or 3x in price.

Even if you could unscrew one bell from your current double release, it would not screw into the M8 shutter release.

I recommend you buy the release Leica made for your equipment. It is cheap and easy to find and will work the best.

Oh. I see. Well I don't as I cannot see the outside thread at the bottom. Thanks for putting me right.

My OZTNO doesn't work on M8.

It fits, but it is not possible to action the shutter.

OZXVO-M/16493 is the way to go.

It is expensive because quite rare.

I have one, in box.

Ashes on my head than.... I have not physically tried the OZTNO on an M8, simply assumed that if all other release adapters fit, so should the OZTNO. And - I do agree that the double cable release Philippe pictured is probably the best solution.

Off the subject - I wanted to ask you for a long time Philippe: where did you find that 'brotherly kiss' between Tovarisch Brezhnev and Genosse Ulbricht that adorns your avatar?

Best,

I did take the picture myself just after it was painted on the East side of the Berlin Wall in 1990, this is called East Side Gallery, Jan.

This has been restaured by the artists few weeks ago, to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Those frescos where full of tags and graffitis (see here) just days after I took this picture.

(but the lover is Genosse Honecker)

Ok. I bought an OTZNO/14088. It fits fine in the screws. From your descriptions I didn't get it how the "bell" is fixed - I could not see any thread. Now I have got it, it fits fine but I still cannot see the thread - it is very hidden.

However, another problem: The cable part of the OTZNO is a little bit bigger at the end so that it sticks and it cannot push the button. I will take something off with a metal file.
