steelduck Posted June 15, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I made the switch back to film and bought an M6 few weeks ago and I am travelling to Bali in July. Any recommendations for a good color film to take pictures outside in tropic.
Advertisement Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Hi steelduck, Take a look here Good film for Bali. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kdemas Posted June 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2010 If you like slides Kodak e100g might be nice. You could even do some Kodachrome as well! If negative film I might think of Ektar. If you're a Fuji person Velvia is always nice for nature if you like saturated colors.
dicko101 Posted June 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 16, 2010 Try a few different films to see what you like, but as an all-round slide film, I'd say Fuji Provia. Colour neg, perhaps Kodak Portra 160VC.
PasMichiel Posted June 16, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2010 Kodak e100g I find too Blue like the most Fujifilm. I prefer the Portra VC (Vivid Color) or even the Portra NC (Natural Color). And because the bright light a low ASA film so indeed the 160. The EKTAR 100 (Ultra-vivid color) is the best in it's kind. Exceptional sharpness by it's fine grain. alun Posted June 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 16, 2010 I'd put in a recommendation for Portra 400 NC -- wonderful subtle tones, slight grain to give some bite, and if you're working from scans very easy to punch up the colours a bit in your image program. I am also getting better lab scans from Portra than I have in the past from my regular all-purpose film Fuji Superia 400.
PasMichiel Posted June 18, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 18, 2010 I'd put in a recommendation for Portra 400 NC -- wonderful subtle tones, slight grain to give some bite, and if you're working from scans very easy to punch up the colours a bit in your image program. I am also getting better lab scans from Portra than I have in the past from my regular all-purpose film Fuji Superia 400. Why the 400? You can't take a small aperture and you will have a time of 1000 to fast (max of the M6)
steelduck Posted June 18, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted June 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the tips. I think I will get a few of the recommendations and see what comes out. I have my M8 also and I am just starting to experience with the M6. PasMichiel Posted June 18, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 18, 2010 Thanks for the tips. I think I will get a few of the recommendations and see what comes out. I have my M8 also and I am just starting to experience with the M6. you're welcome. Have fun there. Remember the original M8 has 8000 shuttertime (the 8.2 and u 4000) and the M6 only 1000. Don't go sky high with your Asa.

Interesting about your Fuji perception. I actually find them biased towards greens. In any event, have a great time and post some pictures from whatever you end up using! damaso Posted June 26, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 26, 2010 I'd highly recommend bringing some Ektar 100. When it is sunny in Bali you'll have plenty of light and the colors are really unmatched in a color print film !
peter_n Posted June 26, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 26, 2010 I took a lot of Reala to Fiji and really liked the look of it, not saturated and very subtle. I mostly shoot B&W but I was extremely happy with the way my color negs turned out.
