Joachim123 Posted May 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering adding an R8 body as a back up to my R4. I dont like to wind film by hand and love the R4 motor drive. I noticed that there are two different drives: The R8 motor winder and the R8 motor drive. Does anyone know the difference and what are the advantages of the motor drive vs winder?

bill Posted May 14, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 14, 2010 Off the top of my head, about 2fps, the trade off is weight and bulk. Regards, Bill
david.kim Posted May 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 17, 2010 I own the R8 and the Motor-Drive. I do agree that it adds considerable weight, but it does add two additional shutter release buttons (vertical and horizontal shooting). I must say, the additional (horizontal) shutter button is brilliant - I wonder why they couldn't do that in the first place...
dritz Posted May 17, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 17, 2010 The motor drive is much quieter than the winder... perhaps because the wind/advance happens to fast.
JBA Posted May 17, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 17, 2010 I have an R8 with motor, and indeed it is the quietest motor drive I've never heard. Another brilliant feature of the motor drive is its auto bracketing function. The drive will fire off three quick shots, one at nominal exposure, one over and one under by the amount of EV you set the switch to.
