mgcd Posted October 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The WB wheel fell off my DMR without notice yesterday. This is a known problem with early DMRs, that has since been remedied by Leica (Imacon produces the unit). Months ago, there was ample web chatter on this very issue on the famous "Leica DMR Bible" thread on FM, by Guy Mancuso - who himself had taped his wheel as a preventive measure at the time. Mine had shown no shakyness at all for over a year... Annoying. I had planned to get it changed by Leica in NJ before my departure for Indonesia 2 months ago, but time constrainsts prevented that from happening. Now my biggest problem is where to get it fixed and fast! I've contacted my stockist, Solms and the Leica agent in Malaysia (closest to Indonesia), to see if they had a clue. This being Sunday and up to 12 hours ahead for some, I won't be hearing anything until tomorrow at the very earliest. It's the logistics involved that are most annoying, since I'm in the armpit of Indonesia, transport and communications wise... In any case, this is mostly cosmetic as the unit is fully functional and I only use RAW. It just bothers the hell out of me!

billh Posted October 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2006 Conrad, how are you doing? I have been wondering about you, so it is good to see you post (but sorry about the subject matter...). What broke? Is it a plastic connection that has snapped? Could you epoxy it? Conrad - there is always film, you know....... Take care! Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 29, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2006 On the DMR unit there is the adjustment wheel for ISO , self timer, and some other functions. In the early units the wheel would seperate from the shaft holding it in place. The connection to the shaft is the iffending part. So Leica acme up with a better way to attach the wheel to the back. One of my DMR's this has happened to and had it fixed early on and has worked perfectly since , this is the one I am selling now. The latest DMR i bought this was redone at the factory. All repair shops have this part in stock and can fix it. Image from the web site Welcome, dear visitor! Rolo Posted October 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2006 The WB wheel fell off my DMR without notice yesterday. SNAP ! We have disaster events in common. My Metz flash gun pistol grip separated yesterday during a wedding shoot and dumped my 3 week old Canon 1D MkII N onto the tarmac ! In spite of its reputation for being a 'brick dump house' the impact from the 18" fall caused a 1/2" split in the top plate. Good luck with your fix. :(

mitchell Posted October 31, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 31, 2006 Conrad, As said earlier, good to see you posting. Bad to see the reason. Very much look forward to seeing your images of Indonesia. Best, Mitchell
